what is the furthest a vacuum can be and still suck up lint/hair?
wether its industrial or just a regular vacuum with a hose attachment.
in other words what is the strongest vacuum?
another question, if i were to cut a vacuum extension, so its right up to the source of the suction, does that make it stronger?
** and i think you misunderstood my question. i mean how far can the hose be from the trash itself. like a foot, 2 feet, six inches?

The distance from the debris and still pick it up will depend on the weight and tenacity of the debris and the strength of the vacuum. The closer you can get the nozzle to the debris, the better results you're going to have.
The purpose of the extension is to extend the reach of your vacuum. Vacuums and their attachments are designed to work together, meaning the extension will never be longer than your vacuum can handle. Cutting said extension will only serve to nullify it's purpose.
If you're having problems with suction, make sure that the bag or dust bin is not full or blocked, the vacuum passages are not blocked, and that the filters are clean.

If the hose doesn't leak you can make it suck for about a mile... Just kidding but fifty feet is not a problem. I use a shop vac on the back porch with about a 40 foot hose and it works well for going through the house.
Central home vacuums work on this principle.
The longer the hose the better. Just be sure to not have any small leaks...
