What is the best way to de-flea kittens?

I have rescued 2 kittens from under a rose bush about 5 wks ago that are now approximately 8-10 wks old. They are full of fleas. Till now I've just been using a flea comb. I googled and found that I should use Lemon joy to bath them and that the citrus will kill the fleas. Didn't work! But I didn't leave it on for a period of time. And I put the Joy in the bath water and not on the kittens out of fear they would get sick.

I asked the owner of a local rescue center her opinion when I took them to have them wormed and she said to use blue Dawn dish soap, which I haven't tried yet, and put it on them till they become a light blue in color. (They are 90% white kittens with patches of grey tiger stripes and orange.)

They are healthy and gaining weight, playing and adapting well in their new environment, yet need their shots. They will both be spayed (girls of course) as soon as possible. I like to wait till they are at least 4-5 months old.

But, my problem at this time is the fleas!!!

Any ideas?

I got a kitten a few weeks ago who had alot of fleas and if you cover the kittens in Dawn, it suffocates the fleas and kills loads of them! Most flea medicine will make kittens younger than 12 weeks sick so if your unsure about age, stick with the soap! Just make sure to keep most of it out of their eyes and ears. Then rinse them well in warm bath water and rub them dry so they dont get cold.

Ive found that natural and organic products work best. Theyre a little more expensive but worth it. They also come in a power and a wipe which i love. Also, do the spays asap. Cats can start their heat as early as three months.

Speak to your vet and get Frontline spay or something similar. Do it soon or your house will become infested with fleas.

You could take them to the Vet and get some special formulated spray or wash them in the Bathtub!

A good flea shampoo available at any pet store will work.
