Debt collectors calling for my sister. How to make them stop?
Sis doesn't live with me. Sis doesn't live my folks. Yet and still a place called ERS continually calls both of us looking for her. Each tie, I have asked them to stop calling, each time they PROMISE to call back.
I know I can send a Cease and Desist if I am the debtor.. But can I send one if I'm being harassed, but the debt isn't mine? Or am I going to have to fly to Illinois and burn the place down?
Err. Debtee or whatever...
*** Note. This isn't about sis's debt. This about the goof balls who are calling ME and my parents, each of whom are very notably NOT my sister.

Once you request to be put on a do not call list, they have to listen. Same goes for debt collectors. I would report them to their BBB (see link). You can also send a letter to cease and desist, and also include intentional torture to the list. We were receiving calls for someone with the same last name, but in no way related to us. It took 1 report to the MN BBB and then a letter from a attorney friend of ours to get them to stop.

Yes, you can send them a Cease and Desist letter. You can also report them to the feds and your phone company. Do not answer a single question they ask you, tell them to stop calling, and that if they call again that they will be reported for every offense.

Not much they have the right to collect a legal debt However you can call the phone company and they might help you .They frown upon harassing phone calls and are set up to stop and if need be prosecute them.

If you can carry a peice of paper with you or put it by the phone makes sure you keep notes of every time they call so you have a record of all of this.
