To Bible scholars- Who is that prophet?

According to the Bible, God said to Moses, on whom be peace:

“I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.” (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18).

I will punish anyone who refuses to obey him (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 19).

The prophet described in the above verse must have the following three characteristics:

1. He will be like Moses.

2. He will come from the brothers of the Israelites, i.e. the Ishmaelites.

3. God will put His words in the mouth of that prophet and he will declare what God commanded him.

Let us see which prophet God was speaking of.

1. The prophet like Moses

Some people feel that this prophecy refers to the prophet Jesus, on whom be peace. But, although Jesus* was truly a prophet of God, he is not the prophet spoken of here. Muhammad* is more like Moses*

• Jesus* was born miraculously, and, finally, God raised him up miraculously. On the other hand, Moses and Muhammad were born in a natural way and both died natural deaths.

• Moses and Muhammad gives new instructions (10 commandment and Quran), but Jesus hadn’t any such instructions, He only came to fulfill the LAW(Torah)

• Moses and Muhammad had the power of authority to enforce the instructions; But Jesus had no power to enforce.

• Moses and Mohammad had to migrate from their land, But Jesus hadn’t to migrate.

Therefore Jesus is not like Moses, Mohammad is like Moses ( Holy Bible: Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18)

2. From among the Ishmaelites

Abraham* had two sons, Ishmael* and Isaac* (Genesis, chapter 21). Ishmael* became the grandfather of the Arab nation, and Isaac became the grandfather of the Jewish nation. The prophet spoken of was to come not from among the Jews themselves, but from among their brothers, the Ishmaelites. Muhammad*, a descendant of Ishmael, is indeed that prophet.

Therefore Jesus is not like Moses, Mohammad is like Moses ( Holy Bible: Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18)

3. God will put His words in his mouth

“Neither the content of the revelation, nor its form, were of Mohammed’s devising. Both were given by the angel, and Mohammed’s task was only to repeat what he heard.”(World Religions from Ancient History to the Present, by Geoffrey Parrinder, p. 472)

God sent the angel Gabriel* to teach Muhammad* the exact words that he should repeat to the people. The words are therefore not his own; they did not come from his own thoughts, but were put into his mouth by the angel. These are written down in the Qur’an, word for word exactly as they came from God.

Therefore Jesus is not like Moses, Mohammad is like Moses ( Holy Bible: Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18)

Now comes to next verses of that chapter: “I will punish anyone who refuses to obey him” (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 19).

Is there any beloved Jesus follower who can deny God’s this warning?

* on whom be peace

Update:

“I (GOD) will raise up for them ( for Jews) a prophet like (similer to) you (Moses) from among (within) their (Jews- Moses and Jesus both were decendent of Isaac ) brothers (Arabs-decendent of Ishmael); I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.” (The Holy Bible, Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse 18).

First important thing is to consider "like you". Do someone deny the similarity of Moses with Muhammad and disimilarity with Jesus ?

Then comes to John of New testament. Most certainly you agree that John is from Jesus life and what he said. Look what he said in John: Ch 16 vs 12-14

Joh 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now.

Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Joh 16:14 He shall glorify me……

NOW answer this question --- Who is the HE

Update 2:

Explanation of

John 16:12---- Quran gives detail

John 16:13----Muhammad spoke whatever He heared from Gibrael who carry massage from God.

John 16:14---Muhammad is the only non-christian person who honor Jesus,His prophesy testify His mother's saintness, His miracles, His miraculous birth. What you need more ?

Update 3:

If you are honest, explain John: ch 16, vs 12-14

5). The Koran reports no miracles of Muhammad.  The Koran even says that Muhammad was not like Moses.

Sura 28.48 But (now) when the truth has come to them from Us, they say: Why is he not given the like of what was given to Musa (Moses)? What! did they not disbelieve in what Musa was given before? They say: Two magicians backing up each other; and they say: Surely we are unbelievers in all. (49) Say: Then bring some (other) book from Allah which is a better guide than both of them, (that) I may follow it, if you are truthful.

God isn't giving three characteristics in Deuteronomy chapter 18. At the first of the chapter he is telling the Levites that God is all that they require and he sets out what the priests can take as their due. Then he tells them not to do abominations, magic, and telling the future, not to take on spirits and dabble in sorcery and witchcraft. Again God should be enough and don't worry about nations that don't follow God and don't act like them. He says he will raise up a prophet from within their brethern. There is no mention of the ishmaleites. Just the Levites in this chapter. There is no mention of Muhammad in this chapter. I don't know Muhammads teachings but I would bet something gives him away as not the prophet God was going to raise up! Neither is there mentnion fo Gabriel in this chapter. There is just the warning to avoid false prophets and the abominations they shall bring to the world. I would think that this proves God has a hand in keeping muhammad from coming foreward. You have quoted deuteronmy chapter 18 incorrectly and that which you have quoted incorrectly God points out to me beware of false prophets with the very verses you miss quote. I think you just proved that the God of Abraham exists.

Your premise is flawed. The prophet IS to be from among the Israelites (as opposed to the Judaites [Jews] specifically) and NOT from among Ishmael, so it is NOT a reference to Mohammad.

It is true that Jesus could have been a prophet, except for the fact that he failed to meet the qualifications of a true prophet of God.

If "from among your brothers" meant Ishmael as opposed to Israelites, then EVERY instance of the expression, including those which say "if anyone from among your brothers violates [this or that] commandment..." would ALSO apply to Ishmael, and therefore, according to God, Ishmaelites are sinning when they violate those Torah laws.

It it clear from the context of Deuteronomy that it is not talking about a specific prophet but prophecy in general.

As to your comment that this prophet has to come from some nation that is not the Jewish people... well, the Torah says "brethren" when telling the Jewish people from where they select their kings. Yet, the Bible makes it clear these kings were Jewish.

Source(s): This is what happens when you try to use another religion 's Scripture to promote your own... you end up displaying your own ignorance.

God gave His Laws to moses, His prophet ... directly .. not thru an angel but ... direct communication. Not only to moses but to ALL God's prophets. They ALL communicated ... directly ... with God ... never .. with an angel.

Exodus 3.4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

1Kings17.2 And the word of the LORD came unto him <prophet Elijah>, saying, 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

1 Samuel 3:4 That the LORD called Samuel <prophet Samuel>: and he answered, Here am I.

these are just a few examples to show that God, the ONLY God there is anywhere ... is the God of the Holy Bible. He gave His Message to mankind thru His prophets ...

compare this to islam, where mohd declares he received 'god's' message thru the angel gabriel.

the above verses i put up PROVE that God does not speak to His Prophets thru angels. Means God NEVER sent an angel to mohd.

so WHICH ANGEL did mohd communicated with? satan

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

this is how christians KNOW that mohd was a servant of satan, an illiterate with no schooling unlike God's prophets ... came up with the koran – message fm satan saying the HOLY BIBLE contain lies.

The Holy Bible is 100% the infallible Word of God. Amen.

you're brainwashed from birth .. are you able to accept the TRUTH that is completely different from what you've been taught to believe ? if you can, its good for your soul. If you can't, its YOUR soul and you know where you'll go after you die, right ...

    2. He will come from the brothers of the Israelites, i.e. the Ishmaelites.

    no false assumptions

it would come from issac's line not ismael

it is jesus the prophet god is telling moses about

    it is not Mohammad

    3. God will put His words in his mouth

every thing jesus spoke of came from his father

    guess what ?

all those words, all those religions,

    all made up.

not real, baloney, fairy tales, myths, nonsense, crap

I know it's not going to make any difference to you, but all that you've been told is made up. If you go to a real school you'll learn about new stuff that's been found out in the last 500 years that makes fairy tales like that, seem very very stupid.

Someday you might feel very foolish, you already look that way to most of the educated world.
