Why is it illegal(or forbidden) for certain stores in Thailand to sell alcohol between 2pm and 5pm?
This law or rule doesn't apply to all establishments, but it does for many. This seems silly to me, especially when they are allowed to sell alcohol before 2pm. Why is it ok to sell(or buy) alcohol in the late morning to early afternoon, but once it becomes late afternoon, it's not ok?
Ah ok. Thanks. That actually makes sense. But yes, it does seem backwards; the big stores where this is enforced should be checking ID's, while the mom and pop stores that aren't enforced probably don't check ID's. Maybe this is a publicly unspoken effort by the government to funnel revenue into the local mom and pop shops at the expense of the foreign owned big stores.

It's against the law in small shops too, but not enforced, I don't really know why any more than I know the reason why when a hole appears in the road it is over filled so instead of a hole to ruin my car there is a bump, that never goes down but another hole will appear next to it, and I am an optimist.

The "So Called' Reason behind the law was to make it harder for kids to get there hands on alchohol. 2-5 is when most kids get out of school, and are unsupervised. Prime time for them to buy liquor. Unfortunately, they only enforce the law at the big stores, not the mom and pop stores, where the enforcement would be more beneficial.
Edit:- My mother-in-law has a shop and would sell guns to terrorists if she could make money doing so. It's village law where I live ie make it up as you go along.
