97' SUBURBAN TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS?

From enitial start everything works fine. After it starts to warm up it starts to slip. I can here a ticking noise (sounds like someone threw a handful of ball bearing in the torque converter) from where the torque converter is. Would the torque converter just be bad or is the tranny shot? Also, i check the fluid and its dark red with lots of bubbles on the dip stick. Can't get an good reading on the dip stick look over full with all the bubble on it.

overfilling it can cause bubbles and cause slipping and you have a good chance of blowing seals. you better drain part of the fluid out by taking 1 of the lines off the radiator, disable it from starting, stick the line into a jar and have someone crank the engine. when you think there,s enough fluid in the jar tell them to stop cranking. put the line back on and fix it so it will start. get it warmed up, park on a level surface and check it with the engine running.
