What are your toddlers sleeping patterns?
I have a two and half year old And she is a bad sleeper. she refuses to sleep after lunch even if she is tired and then wants to nap at around 4pm, but if i let her she goes to sleep at midnight. She wakes up at 7-8am and because I don't let her nap late in the afternoon she goes to sleep at around 8pm but sometimes wakes up at night and tKes a while to fall asleep....

my son turned 2 in july, and he's a great sleeper. he wasn't always - we had several nights of me going in, calming him down, and repeating 5 minutes later. there was a night or two i just let him CIO because i was to stressed to do anything else.
bedtime is between 8 and 8:30.
wakes up around 8
nap at 12:30, sleeps for roughly 3 hours.
several months ago we started having problems again with nap/bedtime. now what i do is set a timer - i let him push the buttons :) he knows now, that when the timer goes "beep beep" it's time to get into bed, and that's that...
lately he's been having nightmares/terrors (i'm assuming because of a couple surgeries he just had). when he wakes from those, i'll go in and get him, and lay on the couch with him for 5-10 minutes, but he'll usually go back to bed just fine after that...
she should be old enough now, that she can understand some reason to an extent. if she's going to refuse to sleep alltogether, try compromising. tell her that it's nap time, and she needs to be in bed and quiet for an hour, and then she may get up. let her have a small toy (w/o batteries!) if that's what it takes. as long as she's being quiet, she's getting some rest, and hopefully she'll even sleep. make a rule that she won't go down for a nap after say 3:00. it may be harder on you for a week, but you need to get her into a good schedule - that will make it easier on her.

My 17 month old is also pretty sporadic. We usually get him to sleep around 9-10pm and he usually wakes up at least once/night if not 2 or 3 times. He will sleep until 9 am usually, but we try to wake him up earlier because it's easier to get him to sleep at night the earlier he wakes up. At daycare they say he takes pretty good naps for them, but when he's at home it is VERY hard to get him to nap.
He is in a toddler bed and does much better in that than he ever did in his crib. About 1-2 times a week he'll sleep through the night (10p-5a) and he NEVER did that in his crib.

create a strick routine, she will get it, after a while. my 2.5 year old, is in bed 8.00pm, story and a few songs, lights out 8.30pm - we don't usually hear from her till 7 or 8.00am
then 1.00pm day sleep, after a full belly of lunch - we stick to same night routine, stories and songs, then lights out, shut door. She sleeps till bout 3 - 3.30pm.
my main thing i have realised with my daughter, is, she needs to have been awake for a least 4 hours, to go down without a fight, hence the 8 ish night time and waking up at 3 or 3.30pm, otherwise if i let her sleep past 3.30pm, she too would be up all night.
just be consistent, and stick to it. you are the parent. goodluck :)

My two year old wakes at 720, naps from 12-2/230. And goes to bed at 820. Routine.
