What do most people vote on when picking a president?
A) Their policies (remember Obama campaigning on closing GITMO)
B) Their age (remember McCain looked like he could die making Palin president...still alive I think)
C) Their ability to sound like they will accomplish great things (Obama is great at this)
D) Their party (do people just vote down the party line on everything?)
E) Their "coolness" (the media can really help a candidate out by making them cool in the eyes of the people)
F) Their VP pick (remember McCain actually lost votes because of his pick)
G) <fill in the blank>
I'm not asking what YOU vote on, but what most people do vote on. I guess I should change "coolness" to celebrity status!

I the biggest factor for most people is the celebrity and public image of the candidate himself (or herself). Sadly.

G) Basically it breaks down into three groups. Those who are solidly Leftists and believe in Socialist policy, larger and more intrusive government is the way to go. Those who are solidly Rightists and believe self-reliance, individual liberty and strictly limited Federal Government in accordance to the Constitution is correct. Finally, everybody else.
The "everybody else" are people who do not really think about political philosophy, Constitutional matters or Government for the most part. They go about their busy or not so busy lives focused elsewhere. It has always been so.
Think about it. Even during the Revolutionary War there were the same three groups. Tories who wanted to remain British Subjects, Patriots who wanted independence and everybody else. It is always the aim of the Left and the Right to persuade those that don't pay attention to vote with them.
By the way, be careful not to allow history revisionists misstate reality. McCain's numbers spiked upward after he selected Sarah Palin to be his running mate. In fact, it put him back in the game.
Choices A through F are simply the means Political Parties use to persuade the people in the third group.

I think they pick a person and get caught up in the hype. I see nothing else but that. It would be nice to have a candidate who is truly who they say they are. With only one major concern. This country and what's best for it and all of it,s citizens. And have the know how and the stones to get something done. Talk is truly cheap. That's all I see is wishful thinking. Even from those who hold the highest office in the land.

A.
F. McCain selected his VP for a reason, obviously he had faith in her. He lost because he was on "his deathbed," all of 2008, the propaganda machine, and all that free "Obama money," chaos that Obama's campaign couldn't find the heart to deny.

Voting should be suspended for people on welfare as they tend to vote for whoever is going to keep their way of life and offers more. Once those people are working they can vote again.

Economic views. The hyperbolas promises of "hope and change" are meaningless nonsense.

A paper ballot. Then they look and see an R or a D and they pick one without thinking.

"A" for me.
When it comes to "D", I tend to vote Democrat, but I am not a Democrat. I vote Democrat because the Republicans are too crazy, unelectable, and fraudulent (they work for the rich, not the majority of Americans).
