PLEASE don't skip over this question, help my cat and his terrible flea bites?
Okay a little bit of back story, I live with my boyfriend and his family. There are three cats here and one is mine. I picked it out of a litter that was born here at the house two years ago. Well all summer it has been infested with fleas. I've tried frontline TWICE and it didn't do anything. Now I fear the fleas have only gotten worse. He is a long haired cat and it is difficult to see the fleas, but now I see a lot of flea dirt on him. He's covered in it. And there are also lots of red bumps on his skin. So I started doing flea sprays and baths weekly. Still no relief and now the flea dirt is even worse you don't even have to look through his fur you can see it on the surface of his fur it literally falls off of him. My boyfriend and his family think I am overreacting and won't help me with vet bills. I am so devastated upset I don't know what to do... I haven't done a flea bath in two weeks but I was nervous about overdoing the baths/sprays that I stopped because I didn't want to make him ill from that... and I can't take him to a vet this weekend because there is a hurricane about to hit my area... nobody in the house will help me or give me any suggestions because they don't think it's that serious but I am extremely upset. Should I give him another flea bath? It won't harm him right?? It looks like he's losing fur, I don't know why... I think from licking himself so hard to stop the fleas from biting... please help me.
I wish I could take him to my mom's house, but she won't let me because she has an elderly cat there that probably won't accept him... I don't know what to do. :(
The other cats do not have any fleas. I don't understand why he still does...

Some animals are allergic to fleas. This could be the reason he is having such a hard time and losing his fur. You should try Revolution. I work at a vet and in my area the Frontline doesn't work. May be the same in your area. Clients seem to be very happy with the Revolution.
Also, sometimes giiving too many baths can irritate their skin and we have had a bunch of reports about some of the flea and tick treatment from supermarket and supply stores not working and causing irritation.
I guess what I'm getting at is you should visit your local vet and pick up some Revolution.
Hope this helps!!

Fleas baths are useless..it does nothing to kill the eggs and it never gets all the fleas off. It also dries out the skin and can cause the skin to become irratated. Some flea shampoos and dip are very harsh and can be toxic. Have you tried Advantage or Revolution. The spot on liquid types usually work well. If you put the frontline on then washed the cat..you washed all the medicine off. this could be why it did not work. Usually the spot ons start to work withing 24 hours of applying them. It may have worked to kill the fleas on the cat, but if the house is infested then you would ALSO need to treat it with a flea bug bomb. Your cat could also have a flea allergy and this is why he is always licking and scratching. I suggest you try again with a spot on treatment. They have always worked for all my cats. Talk to your vet if you are applying it monthly and not seeing results. Don't stop treatment..you must put it on EVERY month. You stopping treatment could have been why you were not seeing results. Just be patient. If your cat does have a flea allergy, the vet could give him a shot to help relieve him.

Do you understand that the baths, sprays etc are useless if the whole house is infested? You need to get the place sprayed. Fleas are like many other bugs; you kill some and even more bugs take their place.
Keep the poor kitty outside during this proccess. Give him (and all other animals) one final flea bath before moving them back into the home. And take him to the vet! Fleas are a nasty thing to have to deal with, but the excuse that you can't go this weekend is silly. Go on Monday. Get the cat some antibiotic lotion and extra strength flea spray and get the whole house fumigated. If you don't, they will just keep coming back!

you are only traeting the cat. You need to treat the house and yeard too. Vacuume the floore and furnature, wash the bedding and all clothes that may be laying around, and if nessary bomb the house. Don't bomb till your done cleaning cause you have to cover all your fradgle surfaces when you bomb and the fleas will hide. When you vacuum put a flea collar in you vacuum canister to kill any fleas you vacuum up. Then go out side and spray down the yard with flea spray, and sweep up the sidewalks and porches. Even if they think your over reacting they will appreciate a clean house and if you do it with a good addatude they may even get up and help you. Good Luck

I suggest giving it a bath with LEMON JOY then put Advantage for large dogs on it "Just a few drops"
the only place to buy the REAL Advantage flea med is from your vet , the Fronline is not as good..
The over the counter stuff DOES NOT WORK.
Joy with Lemon kills the fleas & does not hurt your cat-leave it on for 5 minutes then rinse real good.
The Advantage will keep the fleas from re-infesting for a minute but you will also have to treat the area the cats live in. Put it on ALL the cats at once
You can buy that in your grocery store, I use the stuff Bengal room fogger, you set it close up the room & leave for a while.
Thats the ONLY way to keep the fleas away.
You cat has a flea allergy, this will work.

You need to treat all the animals in the house, as well as any soft surfaces like the carpet, pet bedding, etc. Also do not let any of the cats outside since they will just bring in more fleas. Wash anything you can safely do so, in HOT water and stick it in the dryer on high. Steam carpets/floors, mattresses etc with a steam cleaner, and when you can, take your cat to a groomer and get him cleaned up.

Hi there, my grandad has a cat like that, you could try giving your cat a flea pill in his food or you could try frontline spray again, you could also buy a nit comb and comb the fleas off him.
another flea bath shouldn't hurt him.
I hope something works :)

Your cat has tapeworms and is anemic--vacuum and get a flea collar--cut the tip off put in vacuum--in fact put dust in their too--any,I suggest something of a serious nature like chinese pepper--and bleach soaked in rice pellets--all in the bag--let the rice dry first-put it in a brown bag and double it from a vessel you can wash.Wash all bedding and linen-and use hot water.Remove food bowls and call pest control-or get a fogger.Repeat it--and again if necessary.
