Is it true people believe people believe we came from monkeys?
That's something I have difficulty believing.
I don't repeat myself for no reason, you know.

No, but Christian zealots often like to misrepresent science by propagating that lie.
Science has never made the claim that "people came from monkeys". What the evidence for evolution shows is that apes and humans share a common ancestor. Go here to learn a little more about the subject:

There's also plenty of evidence for hominid evolution:

@Jenny: That's like asking "If the US started off as a colony of British immigrants, then how come there are still people living in Great Britain?" Evolution doesn't say that all organisms follow some hierarchical direction.

Yes it called macro evolution or more commonly just plain evolution.
And you should have a hard time believing because the entire concept is a theory riddled with holes.
Two main points there is a lack of a transitional fossil record and the math doesn't work out.
Sure creatures adapt to their changing environment, that's micro evolution and every living creature utilizes it when necessary.
But they are two entirely different beasts.
I suggest the following for more information on what is good science and what is offered in modern times (aka pseudoscience).

i have difficulty beleving any theory people come up with for how we came to be. especially religion. but id rather believe that people evolved from a species that was not monkeys...more ape like. then believeing that a magical god like figure snapped his fingers and "ping" humans were created....

No, it's not.
Humans and apes shared a fairly recent common ancestor -- which was neither human nor ape, and which lived about 5-7 million years ago. Monkeys share a common ancestor with *that* ancestor, but split off around 5-6 million years prior to that.
And "belief" has nothing to do with it -- it's what all the evidence shows.
Peace.

We didn't technically come from monkeys, if we did, there wouldn't be any monkeys today, we came from an earlier form of humans, similar to monkeys, but not monkeys.

A lot of people believe that, and there is evidence to support it, but I've always wondered that if we evolved from apes (it's apes, not monkeys), then why are there still apes on Earth?

I do not believe it is true. But if it were, it is obvious some did not take a very long trip.

We have a common ancestor. (Same tree, different branches). Christian Presuppositional Apologists would have you believe otherwise, and much like the best conspiracy theorists will misquote sources.
