How to solve this math problem (algebra)?

there are a lot of ways...

one is to factor:

(x² + 3)(x² - 2) = 0 <-- kind of like backwards FOIL

then

x² + 3 = 0 or x² - 2 = 0 <-- since if parentheses are multiplied and equal 0 then one set must be 0 for that to happen

x² + 3 can't be 0 since x² must be 0 or bigger (unless you have talked about "complex" numbers in your class.

so x² - 2 = 0.

this will happen when x² = 2

so x = either √2 or -√2
