I've heard it's something like 17, but how many are actually used in common, everyday language?

  • Is college any better than high school?

I'm currently in high school (junior), and I just need to know: is college worth looking forward to?

High school is rather awful in terms of everything, from the education you're forced to get from teachers who could care less about doing their job well to the sheer amount of work I get that prevents me from ever relaxing or having a social life......so is college any better?

Are the professors actually good at doing their job of teaching you, as opposed to just assigning work for you to do outside of class while they waste class time discussing their life or ignoring the students completely?

Assuming you don't major in law or medicine or something extremely challenging that requires years and years of study, is there still a ridiculous/unmanageable amount of work?

Is socializing/dating any easier? (I can't ever seem to meet any new friends or any guys despite attending school social functions whenever they happen).

Current college students/former college students: your opinions?

  • Do YOU think there is something wrong with me, because my parents sure do?

I will make a long story short here: I'm turning 17 next week, I've never had a boyfriend, my family is putting immense pressure on me to just get a date already, and I want them to just leave me the hell alone.

Does this mean that there is something wrong with me?

I'm sick of them constantly critiquing my personality, saying that I'll never get a guy with the way I act (I'm very shy). I'm sick of them saying that most girls my age have boyfriends (which btw, I don't think is true, as most of my friends and most of the girls I know are single). I'm sick of them worrying about me and thinking that I will end up alone for all eternity or end up with some loser out of desperation like some of the people they know who they say are "just like me."

Normally, parents should be yelling at you to do your homework or apply to college, not yelling at you to get a boyfriend.

To be honest, I don't like anyone at the moment, and feel no need to get myself some random boyfriend just for the sake of having one and appeasing my family. I'm not going to go around and flirt with every guy out there. If I do ever get a boyfriend (which according to my parents will never happen unless I change dramatically), I want a real relationship, not a few dates and text messages.

So, is there something wrong with me? Should I have some dating experience by now and should I be concerned that I will end up alone forever?

I apologize if this sounds like some melodramatic rant.

  • Can you take an AP exam without taking the corresponding AP course?

This year I'm a junior and taking honors English (British Literature to be specific). My school offers two AP English courses, but I decided not to take AP English this year because the teacher is insane (As in, you hand in a well-written paper and she gives you a D without bothering to explain what you did wrong; and then when you ask her what you did wrong, she sends you away without answering your question. She is also known to give bad grades on essays if your point of view on the subject of the essay is different from hers. These reviews come form her current and previous students by the way, not from me since I don't personally know her). So I opted to take honors English instead, luckily got an enthusiastic and fair teacher, and am currently getting an A+.

    I actually have several questions:

    1. Can I take the AP exam(s) for English without taking the AP English course(s)?

    2. What are my chances of doing well on an AP exam for English without having taken an AP class for it?

    3. If I get a good score, can I earn college credit, and how much can I earn?

Thanks in advanced to everyone who answers!

  • How can you tell what type of macromolecule something is based on its formula?

How do you tell what type of macromolecule something is (carbohydrate, lipid, protein) given the molecular and structural formulas?

What functional groups should the monomers of carbohydrates and proteins have?

I feel like these questions are easy to answer, and I'd be able to answer them myself, if my teacher ever bothered to actually teach us -_-"

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • Who else is fed up with Super Junior having the same MV for every song?

Ever since Sorry Sorry, almost all of their music videos have been exactly the freaking same. A bunch of hot guys dancing in a plain/dark/slightly lit-up room wearing some type of suit, rings, sunglasses, and possibly furry hats. Their teaser for A-Cha just came out, and its the exact same MV concept as Sorry Sorry, Bonamana, Perfection, Mr. Simple, etc. I love Super Junior, but seriously, SM needs to change up their music videos already. Those guys deserve something more creative than just dancing in an otherwise empty room while wearing suits and an assortment of accessories. Anyone else agree with me?

I miss MVs like It's You and No Other where there was some type of story line, or they were at least doing something other than dancing and posing in a plain room.

  • How important are extra-curricular activities when it comes to getting into college?

I'm a junior in high school, and this year is going to be the first year that I've ever been in an extra-curricular activity. Is this really bad for college admissions? Will it prevent me from getting into college?

I've never been able to do anything after school because I would always have to babysit my younger sister (she's 12 years younger than me, our parents both work, and no, we can't afford a babysitter). However, she is starting school next week, so now my mom can work while my sister is in school and take care of her after school, granting me some freedom (that I have been lacking since middle school, by the way).

So, will colleges refuse to accept me if I only have two years of extra-curricular activity participation, as opposed to four? Whenever I tell anybody that I don't do any activities after school, they look at me like I'm screwed.

  • Sleep pattern problems; what should I do?

I'm a night owl, but to the extreme. Typically, I go to bed between 2-4am and wake up sometime in the afternoon. As I've figured out, during the day, I'm usually sleepy and I have no energy, but at night and into the hours of the early morning, I'm extremely awake and energetic. I've tried (and failed) multiple times to reset my sleep schedule to what I need it to be for school (going to bed between 10-11pm and waking up at 6am), but it just doesn't work. I wake up early and feel like crap the entire day, and then I STILL can't sleep at night. Even during the school year, I typically sleep very little at night, wake up early, go to school, and come home and sleep for 3-4 hours, only to go to bed late that night and have the cycle repeat. This is just not good for normal life, where everything works during the day, not at night.

This all started when I was around 14 (I'm 16 now) and has progressed to where it is today. I don't know if it is just a phase, as it could be genetics. My mom has the exact same problems, and so do my grandparents, but to a lesser extent.

So, the big question is, what should I do?

Should I try to reset my sleeping patterns again? Should I just suck it up and walk around all day like a zombie? Should I go to the doctor and discuss my issues there?

Thanks in advance to anyone with an answer!

  • Is it really that strange that I don't really like putting on/wearing make up?

I'm 16, and my parents think I'm some kind of freak because I don't like make-up. They're always complaining that I don't wear it and therefore do not care about how I look (I do care about how I look, though. I dress nicely and try to make my hair look good, if that's any indication).

I like the way make-up looks, but that's all. I hate putting on make-up because it takes too long and I usually do a terrible job and end up looking worse than before. I also hate the way it feels on your face. You can't rub your eyes (if you're wearing eye make-up) and if its a hot day, the make-up starts to melt and feel sticky and gross.

What do you think? Is it that strange that a 16-year-old girl does not want to wear and does not like make-up?

BQ: Do you enjoy wearing make-up?

  • Do you think this is strange?

Ok, so there is this woman on my street who has a 14-year-old daughter. Her daughter gets home from school at around 2:45-ish, and the woman gets home from work at around 5pm. This woman is so worried about her daughter (who is 14!) being home alone for two hours, that she actually wants to hire me to babysit her daughter until she gets home.

Do you think it is strange that she is so worried about her daughter being home alone for two hours? I've been staying home alone since I was 11, and I've never had any issues. Plus, we live in a relatively nice area and there's not much danger here. I think this woman's worries are completely irrational. I actually would feel kind of guilty accepting her money to "babysit" a 14-year-old (I'm 16, by the way).

    What do you think?

  • How many of you know a truly happy adult?

  • Can't help but wonder, what's the point?

I'm in high school, and I work my butt of in school. I'm in a few honors classes, I get straight A's, and I'm under constant stress over school. But then I stop to wonder, what the heck is the point of all this?

Get into a good college? Ok, so I get into a good college, and get good grades there, then what? Find a job that I don't like? Get married, have kids? And....will any of that make me happy?

I can't help but constantly question why I try so hard at everything, when there is no guarantee that anything I ever do or achieve will bring me happiness. I don't think I have ever met a genuinely happy adult.

So, I guess my question is....what is the point of life and how can one be happy?

    Sorry if I'm ranting.

This one chick I know is like that. I'm not sure why I find it so irritating though. It's not like she flirts with anyone I like =p
