Do you think this is strange?
Ok, so there is this woman on my street who has a 14-year-old daughter. Her daughter gets home from school at around 2:45-ish, and the woman gets home from work at around 5pm. This woman is so worried about her daughter (who is 14!) being home alone for two hours, that she actually wants to hire me to babysit her daughter until she gets home.
Do you think it is strange that she is so worried about her daughter being home alone for two hours? I've been staying home alone since I was 11, and I've never had any issues. Plus, we live in a relatively nice area and there's not much danger here. I think this woman's worries are completely irrational. I actually would feel kind of guilty accepting her money to "babysit" a 14-year-old (I'm 16, by the way).

I'm fourteen too and my parents freak out too much. Being overprotective and all so it's just a matter of being worried for her daughter. It's not that the mother doesn't trust her daughter, it's just that she doens't know what she would do if something would happen. It's alright to tell her to not worry, but let her daughter tell her that, and I think it's okay to babysit her daughter. If you feel bad about it, just reduce what she pays you by a few bucks. Good luck

Perhaps there's some kind of history with the daughter that's making her mother worry so much. Or maybe the mother just thinks you'll be a good influence.

My mom believes there's a high probability of me being kidnapped at school. She also believes me being driven by a friend's mom could get me killed, because the Mom could be depressive and murder me in the woods.
Is the mother's behavior in your question strange, as in, unfamiliar?
Sadly, no.
Irrational?
Yes.

I think it's weird, too. Does her daughter even mind being home alone? Because I don't. lol

Bad past maybe? I do think this is strange. Have you tried asking her about it? Or her daughter?

I agree with you. When I was 14 I was the babysitter!
