is my 3 month old kitten severly sick?! please help?

i just adopted a 3 month old kitten from a shelter 8 days ago. The last couple of days I've noticed that he's gotten a lot less playful and only wants to sleep on/near me. He meows like crazy if I leave him for one second (even if its to go into another room). He has diarrhea also. He uses the litter box some of the time but others he just goes pee/poop on my carpets. He is also very thin (he was when I got him at the shelter). But hes not gaining any weight and hes not really eating or drinking the last couple of days. I also noticed since tonight that he is walking funny with his back legs, and is pretty wobbly when walking. I'm going to take him to the vet on monday just to be safe (since i did get him from a shelter) but what can I do till then to help him?

Update:

The shelter gave me a bag of food that they were feeding him and thats what ive been using. No I dont give him milk, just water.

You need to get some fluids into this kitten ASAP...a syringe works well, but he definitely needs water. Get him a GOOD QUALITY canned food and try to get him to eat that also...but water is very important. If at all possible I would try to get him into an emergency clinic tonight. He needs professional care.

It's a new environment, his lungs might just need time getting use to the air. Play it safe though and call your vet ASAP and let them know what his symptoms are and see what they suggest. Edit: From what you've added, it sounds like a simple cold, your vet will either give you medicine for him, or if it's really not bad, will simply suggest ways to help him get healthy faster. Be sure to clean his nose for him when you notice the boogies. Your kids can't contract what he has, a feline cold and human cold aren't similar enough. When we get sick, our cats don't get sick with us, so you're kids should be perfectly safe around him.

  • First, be prepared. There is a pretty big possibility you could lose him and the longer you wait, the more that possibility becomes a probability.

Second, look for an emergency animal clinic straight away. Don't wait until Monday.

Yes, the poor kitty is sick and he's meowing like crazy because he is begging you to help him/her. Go to yellowpages.com and find a 24 HOUR animal hospital in your area; they're everywhere and take that poor baby to get treatment. Baby kittens follow their owners everywhere because you are his mommy now. He is also cold because he has no meat on his skinny scrawny little body to keep him warm and your body is warm like his mommy if he was still with her so, that is why he sleeps on you because of your body heat. Poor kitty. Please take him NOW.

have you tried a different brand of food? make sure hes getting water and NOT milk unless its nursing milk from a cat or a formula.
