Should I put my cat to sleep?

My darling Mittens is 12yrs old. Last year some animal got her and had an abscess. The vet operated and gave her antibiotics. She was just ok, after that, never really gained her weight back. 10 months later she had diarrhea, throwing up and very dehydrated. She was at the vet's for 5 days on iv's, meds, blood tests that showed anemia. Everything was normal except anemia. No worms but he gave her a worm shot. She recovered slightly. Now, 1 month later, she has diarrhea, not eating much-throwing up. She had a temp of 103 and is on antibiotics, again. She is so thin, yet she gets around and tries to get well. She is now eating huge amounts of food, drinking water-throwing a lot of it up. She was staring at me and looking at me all day-laying around very weak, white gums. She is trying to live. I am at my wits end. I gave her chicken livers and every special food-everything I could think of. I can't afford $1000 more in tests etc. Two vets checked her out and nothing came up of what has happened to her. they have no clue. Is it time to put my best friend to sleep?

Heartbreaking. She must not feel good, so thin and the antibiotics make her feel better only for a day or so. Any suggestions? Its like the never ending story for months now.

After $400 plus, for this last round. I can't afford more. I wish I had thousands to take her to another vet hospital-xrays everything, but, I can't.

Unless someone could recognize symptoms or something?-I could try and keep her alive. I don't want to lose her-she is the sweetest, smartest dear little girl.

Ask your vet to give it to you honestly.

Vets can give you a prognosis based on the general condition of an animal. Your does sound like she's on her way out. Letting her die with dignity may be the best solution if she is in for one vet trip after another. Think of her quality of life.

Then you can take the money you would have spent on keeping her alive (something at this age may be a losing battle) and spend it on getting another cat and keeping it healthy.

The drug used to place animals to sleep is honestly an anaesthetic agent for horses and cows. Basically the placed-to-sleep process it to supply an overdose of anaesthetic - the animal actually falls asleep because the anaesthetic takes outcome, after which dies even as asleep. It is an excessively peaceable procedure, real the high-quality strategy to pass. The 'first shot' men and women are speakme approximately is a sedative. This is not continuously given, simply commonly if an proprietor requests it. Is frequently needless, as a unwell animal is probably not energetic and can keep nonetheless for the intravenous injection. I've attended actually enormous quantities of euthanasias. The handiest time animal ever react to the injection in any respect is that if they are historical and perhaps scared, commonly feeling out of the blue sleepy makes them consider bizarre they usually would bounce round a little bit. The injection is so speedy regardless that - as soon as it is within the blood (and it's injected instantly into the blood) it takes actually seconds to take outcome. There is not any discomfort within the procedure, the drug does not sting. Chalice

I see someone else already said what I was going to say. There is no way to explain how but she will tell you when it's her time to go and you will know when she tells you its her time. It is very hard but it is for the best when you have to put your pet down. just give her all your attention that you can and love her and be with her.

Were kind of in the same boat as you. We have a cat that went mental about 2 years ago and she is getting worse slowly. She is in very good condition for the condition she is in. Her time we can tell is coming to a end soon figuring befor Christmas. It is not time yet but we have been trying to decide if we should just put her down cause of the condition she is in but at the same time you can tell she is still happy, not suffering, and it is not her time yet. We are trying to give her as much love as we can but the condition she is in, we can not touch her so it is very hard. We ony pick her up when we have to feed her and if she can't find her way out of where she is at.

    Sorry about your cat.

A friendly FYI: body temp of 105 degrees is not compatible with life. So, 103 is very high up there. She was and still is suffering with her illnesses.

I am so, sooo sorry about your beloved kitty. I can probably guess how you feel when you think of losing her.

Unfortunately, it may be best to put her down. That way, she won't be suffering anymore, and she'll be at peace.

animals know when it's their time to go. you'll know when its time. she'll look at you and pretty much say ? "it's time, i'm ready" so just give her as much love as you can, and when it's time for her to pass, she'll leave happy.
