I've never seen a single Star Wars movie, where should I begin?
I understand it's influence in today's film and I guess I just never had the time to sit down and watch it. (until now)
What movie should I start with? What should I see next?

I don't blame you for not seeing them. On a scale from one to ten (one=hate it. ten=my entire house is covered in Star Wars actors' fingernails) I'm about a level 7 fan, and my wife still hasn't seen them.
I grew up with the original three films as a staple in our VCR case. They will always be my favorite of the six, but that's likely due to nostalgia.
With that said, I would suggest watching 4-6 then 1-3. BUT you have never seen any, so you should likely watch them 1-6 so it's easier to follow the story.

Star Wars really brought back the old school style movie making of the original 1930s "blockbuster" When they came out, Hollywood movies had become very gritty, real, very cheaply made and produced more like television shows than feature films. Star Wars brought back the sense of wonder and magic, and even classical scores. The story line itself is based upon Greek Mythology and the Hero's Journey, so it also applied to a more universal audience. Combine that with special effects that were AMAZING at the time, a great sound mix and a huge marketing machine- Star Wars literally changed the movie industry forever and had influenced how every movie since has been made.

Definitely 4-6 because they are the originals. If you watch the newer 3 (1-3) firstyou wont like the older ones as much because of the CGI and new special effects. If you do watch episodes 1-3 before 3-6 you will be saying "oh wow the others are made so much better" the whole time. Take in mind that the new ones have, as I said, CGI and modern special effects whereas the older ones were made with models. The Death Star trench run and other close ups was actually done by using model battleships. the older and newer are EXTREMELY different in looks

Honestly, it doesn't really matter where you start as long as you watch 1-3 and 4-6 as separate trilogies of a single saga. However, I'd like to think that people should watch episodes 4-6 first. It may not be "in line" with the EVENTS of the story, but watching 4-6 before 1-3 allows you to view the saga through its historicity in STORY development.
Many of us true fans will agree that Episodes 4-6 allude to events, deaths, and happenings best enjoyed if they fold out on their own throughout the original trilogy. THEN, you can start to watch 1-3 as a prequel trilogy - as an expansion to the history of the Star Wars universe and the characters unfolded in episodes 4-6.

the first 3 movies were in the 70s where there was barely any sci fi movies to that scale. Nowadays computer special effects is in every single movie. Especially with people like Michael Bay directing movies. The last 3 movies sucked pretty much cause it was more about using special effects then telling a good story.
i do recommend watching the old ones first episodes 4 through 6 to kind of get them out of the way since i doubt you are going to want to see 70s technology that much. then you can update with episodes 1 through 3 which are the later movies. Its a prequel basically

most people say 4-6 then 1-3 because that was the order that they were made. but i saw them 1-6.
it really doesnt matter which order as long as you watch them! :) if you start with 4-6 then 1-3... the effects in 4-6 arent as good as the others because they are older.
watching the newer ones then going back to the old could be a bit annoying because its quite a difference with effects.. but other than that i would rather start with 1 and keep going that way because it really makes the movies easier to understand!
i hope this helped! enjoy your star wars experience!! :)

Well there are two ways to watch them.
If you already know the major plot points of the films, then feel free to watch them in numerical order.
But, if you don't know the full story of all 6 films beforehand: watch them in the order they were made (4-6, then 1-3) otherwise you will lose the effect of the big plot twists in the final films.

people will say go 4-6 then 1-3
but why do it that way
go 1-6 that way you follow the story line not the way it was made
