a question about paying one's fair share of taxes...?
so, i often hear people argue that "rich" people should pay their fair share when the issue of taxes comes up. often, what they mean by fair is some amount more than what they currently pay. they rely on the argument that without things like publicly-funded those people could become rich. and since their incomes rely more on these public resources as opposed to someone who makes considerably less, then they should pay a higher portion of their income.
so here's my question. let's say i don't rely on public roads at all. for the sake of argument let's say i manage to make a million dollars a year, with transactions i performed solely through the internet. i currently pay about fifty bucks a month for my internet service, which is run by a private business, hence it's not public. would anyone here argue that because i've gained so much because my use of the internet, that i'm somehow obligated to pay more to my internet service provider, than someone who doesn't profit at all? likewise, should someone who doesn't profit financially at all from the internet be exempt from having to pay for internet service?
*without things like publicly-funded roads...
i love how liberals love to argue that without the government, the internet would not exist. is it really that big unimaginable that without the government, someone wouldn't have realized you could send information efficiently and electronically through wires? i suppose our telephone grid is just a little too complex for them to realize this.
daisy, no federal funding of what? there are hundreds of federal programs which i believe the federal government has business in. that doesn't mean i don't believe there should no federal government.
"In other words.... there is ZERO way to conduct business in the United States..... without relying on resources PROVIDED BY the United States."
there was zero way to conduct business in the soviet union under communist rule without government involvment. is that to say that those who managed to survive through the economic hardships of communist russia owe some debt of gratitude, moreso than those who died, to communist leaders like stalin? what a pinhead, you are! just because the government gets in the way of private business transactions and occassionally might invest in something worthwhile, such as the internet - and no they didn't invent it (mit deserves credit for inventing it) - does not mean we owe anything extra to the government if we use things such as public road and end up make more money than others.

There would BE NO INTERNET.... without the United States government.
Not only did they INVENT the technology.... they alos developed the initial infrastructure.
Therefore.... your ISP..... would not exist without the assistance of the United States government. The ENTIRE industry.... was state subsidized.
In other words.... there is ZERO way to conduct business in the United States..... without relying on resources PROVIDED BY the United States.
Anyone who thinks they should be able to make $1000 a year.... to $10 million a year.... USING state provided resources..... without paying a "fair share" back to the nation that made that possible.... is nothing but a self centered, deluded.... ******.

Ok enough with this public roads. Roads and bridges are build and kept up by Gas and diesel tax you pay at the pump, so unless you don't drive at all you pay and equal amount based on the type of vehicle you drive. Why do you think the Government wants to start charging mileage tax on cars like they do large commercial trucks because the liberal electric car will take away that tax.

Are you talking about goods and services that you purchase? Or, are you talking about our overall tax structure (ALL taxes and fees as a percentage of total income)?
"Internet" really isn't considered "infrastructure", though I would imagine that it will someday, soon...

do you agree that in the USA we should have no federal interference?
in other words NO federal interference = NO federal funding.

And now, after making sense, liberals will attack the messenger and not debate the merits of the question.
