Climate Change Deniers: Are you Brainwashed by Big Oil?
Time magazine says: "All of the naysayers seem to be following the playbook written by the tobacco industry in its long, ongoing war against medical findings about the dangers of smoking. For both Big Oil and Big Smoke, that playbook is lethally simple: don't straight-up refute the science, just raise skepticism and insist that the findings are "unsettled" and that "more research" is necessary. Repeat that again and again regardless of the latest research, and you help block the formation of the solid majority needed to create any real political change".
Sometimes it is worth asking ourselves: "Who pays to persuade me to believe as I do"?

Of course, no denier will publicly admit Big Oil has brainwashed them and has used them as a cheap tool to further their corporate interests. The deniers are really not the problem for there is no way to convince them about AGW. They've made their minds up long ago already and are simply not going to change it.
The uninformed general public is the main target of Big Oil, the people who simply do not have enough time to research this important subject and who can easily be fed false and misleading information by fake grass-root organizations (often with appealing scientific names). The simple fact that clown Lord Monckton was invited to testify before US Congress indicates that this whole debate is, sadly, not about substance but about spreading as much propaganda as possible.
To Gajin:
<<What is being refuted is that humans contribute more than 3% to the changes>>
You are mixing up two entirely different concepts here: the amount of CO2 humans emit compared to total emissions and the amount of human responsibility in CO2 emission increases. Can't you see that Big Oil has a direct, financial interest in you NOT understanding the difference?
<<We go from ice age to hot to ice age and so on,way before we were here. This is only the latest change.>>
Typical oil funded claim and not true. The next ice age is not due for another 10,000 years.
<<.Read about the mini ice age that hit in 14th century and didn't end until mid 19th century.>>
It is called the "Little Ice Age" and despite that, it was not an ice age and it ended because of a warmer sun, which is not the case now.
To Bob:
<<We arn't brainwashed by anyone. Big Oil? Name one "big oil" company that publicly denies climate change. I can't name any.>>
That says more about what you know about the world around you than it says about Big Oil companies.
<<If you want to hear the views from the other side of the global warming debate I suggest you go to this site http://educate-yourself.org/lte/globalwarming13sep...
You do realize that many of the links on that site you mention lead directly to Big Oil funded pseudo-scientific propaganda sites, don't you, and thus proving the whole point of this question?
Here's just a few:
www.icecap.us : Run by and registered to retired weatherman Joseph D'Aleo. D'Aleo is affiliated with the Big Oil Funded Heartland Institute (listed as a "Global Warming Expert"). Other professional skeptics at icecap are Bob Carter, affiliated with Australia's IPA group which received funding from the fossil fuel industry as well as the Fraser's Institute which is funded by ExxonMobil.
www.fraserinstitute.org Does not disclose its funding yet ExxonMobile disclosed it contributed $60,000 for its work on "Climate Change".
www.junkscience.com Run by Fox News columnist Steven Milloy who is a paid advocate for ExxonMobile and Phillip Morris. Is also associated with Tech Central Science which in turn received $95,000 from ExxonMobile for its "Climate Change Support". Milloy is further associated with (funding from ExxonMobile): Free Enterprise Education Institute ($80,000), Competitive Enterprise Institute ($2,000,000), Cato Institute ($125,000), the Advancement of Sound Science Coalition ($10,000), The Advancement of Sound Science Center, Inc. ($50,000), National Environmental Policy Institute ($75,000).
The Educate-yourself site of your main link is a joke. It looks like a geocities site from internet's prehistory and the pseudo-scientific articles it links to are awfully outdated and have all been scientifically debunked ages ago.
No wonder you are completely unaware Big Oil and similar use you and have been using you for ages as a tool.

Exxon and the Kochs wouldn't be pouring $$$ millions into a disinformation campaign if it didn't work. Now it's got to the point climate deniers will believe anything, and that's ANYTHING these oil funded think tanks tell them.
This is further reinforced by FOX news and conservative bloggers.
Today, in DenialWorld, science is evil. The only thing they will believe is conspiracies.

djrob1943, I wonder if you are old enough to remember this Newsweek article: "The Cooling World," written in 1975. I can remember reading it when I was still in High School and thinking -- this is crap.
http://www.denisdutton.com/cooling_world.htm
In case you are not familiar with that article, it was about predictions from the climate science community, such as The National Academy of Science, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, (some of the same players we have today) predicting that we were almost certainty going back into an Ice Age. You might be aware that, that didn't happen.
But did you know that predictions of doom and gloom due to climate change go back even much further than that? Oh yes, take a look at the article below and see some the newspaper clippings going back to the late 1800's using the same alarmist language the Warmist are using today. First we were going to freeze to death --- then we were going to burn-up and the cycle continues to repeat.

There is an old saying djrob. It goes --- Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame one me. Maybe this is just your first time around, even so, you are behind the power curve. Wise up, you will have a better life for it.

Look we've already been told by liberals that over 90% of the worlds population thinks global warming is a real problem caused by us and supposedly it's over 50% in the US. Liberals were in control of the government for 2 years and instead of saving the planet the senate didn't even vote on cap and tax, they'd already pissed everyone off by passing an idiotic health care bill and are back dooring the carbon issue.
When all the science fails to convince everyone these are the arguments we get; you're being duped by big oil, gravity is just a theory too, you probably deny evolution too, what do you expect from someone who thinks the earth is 5,000 years old, you're not smarter than a scientist, see smoking really is bad for you and the tobacco companies lied, look now that these guys made a non-commital statement no scientific organization disagrees, the consensus is complete, Al Gore is not a scientist so you should ignore the stupid **** he says and pay attention to the world is going to hell in a hand bag message...and you want to know who's being duped into what they believe?

Well you can look at this one of two ways. One the science has moved on since the 1970's with better technology and most importantly better computing power which showed us that this wasn't going to happen. Or most importantly that we should be moving towards an ice age and something has caused temperatures to warm? Mmm wonder what that might have been. Without additional warming from man the temperatures should have stayed reasonably stable or even cooled slightly since the 1970's. They have been going up which you seem to think is proof that the science is wrong its your interpretation of the science that is wrong.
"But did you know that predictions of doom and gloom due to climate change go back even much further than that? Because technology hasn't moved on since the 1800's? The reason so much theory has changed is because of computing power being able to cope with the amount of data we have. In the past this wasn't the case.
"There is an old saying djrob. It goes --- Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame one me. Maybe this is just your first time around, even so, you are behind the power curve. Wise up, you will have a better life for it."
or just fool yourself into believing something that climate scientists say is false? Climate scientists say that AGW is real and when it comes to climate science maybe its a good idea to listen to a climatologist?

Yup, I'm brainwashed by Big Oil. That's where I fill up (my head), at the Big Oil station. They tell me everything I need to know. And I agree. I don't dispute anything they say, because there's this concensus that I have with them. They just have these experts, and eventhough they have been exposed in scandalous contradictions, I just keep on believing what they say. And anybody that disagrees is just a hatemonger. So I'm going to do just what they tell me, becasue I know that they have my welfare close to their heart. They are sincerely concerned about me and my grandchildren, for heaven's sake. Oh, woops, I'm not supposed to mention religion.

What is distasteful, and decidedly unscientific, is the global environmentalists refusal to acknowledge that tens of thousands of scientists dispute the global warming mantra. Over 31,000 American scientists alone have signed the Global Warming Petition, enacted by the past president of the National Academy of Science, refuting the drivel! The Blavankovitch/Malkovitch theory makes more sense than any of the sturm und drang in this article. According to that theory, the Earth tilts approx every 40,000 yrs and there are geometrical changes in Earth's orbit which changes its elliptical rotation every 100,000 yrs relative to the sun. Certainly the Earth is warming but it is also due to the size of the sun. All suns get progressively larger, e.g., more heat, until they become super nova and explode. Millions of years ago the sun was smaller, equals less heat. This is all real science. And, more evidence, ocean cores reveal that CO2 levels were much higher during the Ice Age than now (1986, Planet Earth, Nat'l Academy of Science).

We arn't brainwashed by anyone. Big Oil? Name one "big oil" company that publicly denies climate change. I can't name any.
But the real brainwashing is coming straight from the government and the environmentalists. The whole climate change fear can be used by the government to increase its power and control over our lives. They can now charge us "carbon taxes" for everything we do from driving car, heating the home, to even breathing! (Yes, you breath out carbon dioxide gas). And by the way, don't believe that the government even cares a **** about the environment. If they did they would be telling us all about the amazing free energy devices that have been invented. Like generators that run on radiant energy (energy from the sun in the air around us) and gravity motors. Fossil fuel burning dosn't cause warming of the planet but it does put a lot of harmful chemicals into our air, plus there are tons of oil spills that wreak havoc on ocean ecosystems. I believe that the climate is warming up slowly, but that doesn't mean its Man's fault. The sun has a huge role to play.

No one is refuting we're experiencing climate changes. We have enough evidence that it does happen and has happened for a long as Earth has been here. What is being refuted is that humans contribute more than 3% to the changes. We go from ice age to hot to ice age and so on,way before we were here. This is only the latest change.Read about the mini ice age that hit in 14th century and didn't end until mid 19th century.
The key to all this is in your last sentence,"political agendas"After this hot spell we'll have a cooling spell or we could go straight to another mini ice age.
