What should be done to make MotoGP safer?

I am devastated by Simoncelli's death,FIM have to stand up and take notice just like Moseley did after '94 Imola...and i wont watch any more MotoGP races till something concrete happens. Would like your suggestions, people.

There is not alot more that can be done.

You will notice that riders only get hurt ( or worse ) when they hit something or something hits them.

Tracks have fantastic run off areas now & just like at Sepang with the MM#93 and Bradders #38 crash, Bradders would have walked away from his crash no problem at all, but he hit MM#93 's Suter.

The clothing people will always be making kit better, the air bags from 2008 have come on alot since their early test and the design of leathers / boot etc is getting better every year.

Sadly motorsport is dangerous & on Sunday the world MotoGP was reminded again just how dangerous it can be.

It is sad that Simoncelli crashed and died, but it is a part of racing.

He might have made it if his helmet would have stayed on. I'm sure his helmet met and exceeded the standards that were in place.

Would would you have the FIM do? Make it so they can't go over 20mph? Can't have over 10hp? No more than 2 riders on the track at a time? It's professional racing. Professional racers know the dangers

Don't blame the FIM, don't blame the other riders, Don't blame the bike, don't even blame the rider, sometimes bad things happen and no matter how much you prepare for the worst it won't stop it from happening.

Simoncelli died doing what he loved and he will be missed.

So dont watch, your not taking any notice of whats happening on track anyway.

The accident was caused by Simoncelli feeling the front wash out and thinking he could pull it up on his knee, and I would bet 9 times out of 10 in that same situation he would have, his problem occured when the rear gripped before he had enough angle on his knee. which brought the bike around and across the track. (the rest we know)

If you were to speculate, you could say IF Simoncelli didnt think he could save it - he would have let go.

You could also say IF he had got it up on his knee, he might have High Sided it - in which case the air bags would have gone off but he would have cleared the track (maybe broken and bruised)

    You could also say

When events conspire against you - you are lost.

If you had been watching MotoGP you would have seen all these things

Motorsport is Dangerous - It says so on the ticket.

Enjoy your evenings viewing - try to avoid the news, or you may stay in bed for the rest of your life.

Edit, I forgot to add another factor was only Simoncelli and De-Puniet were on the harder rear tyre, gambling on more grip at the end of the race and less at the start.

it was really horrific and a unfortunate accident. such young talented soul simoncelli. even the most safest motorsports Indy car saw one of the worst crash involving 15 or more cars and death of Dan wheldon. i think the respective motorsports authorities take all necessary actions to prevent such tragedies but sometimes these things happen. when i saw his helmet roll over it was really ghastly to see that. i personally think that the neck area of these GP riders is one exposed part of the rider while the rest being relatively protected and also post crash assistance palys some major role. simoncelli succumbing to his injuries may be because of this factor i believe what a fate that his helmet came off .just imagining the force of the impact that dislodged the helmet from the rider what it must have been. i myself have seen 3 deaths till now Kato, tomizawa and simoncelli. considering the number of riders killed in the isle of man and just watching them ride on the streets takes some nerves. so accidents will always be a part of high risk sports like these but it has to go on and fans will always celebrate the life and achievments of their heros both present and the ones who died doing what they did the best.

Appoint the top riders to advise on safety requirements and the power to veto a race track they deem as not safe. The FIM don't have control over the MotoGP, it is controlled by Dorna who seem to be a bit more interested in the commercial side of the business. The riders should take a more active stand in the sport --- nobody else.

My opinion for what it is worth...

Motor racing has its risks. Less people die in motor racing, than many other so called less dangerous sports. Riders and drivers know the risks, and it is part of the thrill. Compared to the amount of accidents in practice , and racing, there are very few deaths. Nobody cares if you do not watch it . I certainly will, for many years to come.
