Do I have to use metric tires on my truck?
I have a 1999 GMC Sonoma 4WD truck that has 31X1050R15 tires on it. Do I have to replace them with the exact same size? The selection is limited for this exact size and they tend to be more expensive than standard tires.

That is not the factory sized tire for your truck . Look in the door jamb there should be a decal with the factory size tire . I am guessing 235 75 r 15 s . A good tire shop can also tell you what size should be on it .

a 265x75x15 tire is almost exactly same size. 1010tires.com has a good calculator to double check. 31x10.50x15 tires cost more cause most are A/T or M/T tires, those have a more aggresive tread and designed for off road driving usually, search for a 265x75x15 tire and youll find more selection and street friendlier tires, plus a 265x75x15 tire will fit on the same rim as the 31x10.50x15.

I don't see why you couldn't use a P235/70R15 on it. Someomne may have gotten a deal on those tires you have.......31' is really tall for a factory installed tire.

Limited to a few hundred choices maybe. 31x10.50R15LT is a very common size.
