say there's a guy named tom and 2 girl's, one named lisa and one named ally. tom and lisa are dating but he really wants to be with ally because she's who he's always loved. so, tom and ally have a little thing going on on the side. tom projects his affection in two directions, so there are three points, hence the name love TRIANGLE.

If you mean the definition, Love triangle is a relationship that involves three people. Meaning that there are 2 people going after 1 person or that 1 person likes 2 people.

It involves a third party being loved by another person that's committed to another specially if this person is married to that person. Three are involved in the love affair.
