Pure breed dogs vs mixed breed dogs?

Well it depends on the lineage of the parent dogs. If both the parents are purebred and come from good breeders than you can always say that the mix is a "designer dog" But if the dogs that are being bread are just regular dogs then it really doesn't matter. Puppies are worth nothing with out proper documentation and if you are not a top name breeder no one is going to want to buy from you anyway. If you are planning on breeding dogs the best idea is to line up homes for all the puppies before you even begin the breeding process. Don't expect to make any money on your first litter either. You have to have a good reputation before you can start making any real money.

A purebred dog, a well-bred, carefully planned and reared one should always cost more than a mutt. However these days BYBs are naming their price, hanging a fancy (stupid) name on what they are producing, and calling them rare quite often. Sadly there are gullible people out there who believe all this and part with their hard-earned money for something they are told is

'better'.

Provided you find a reputable breeder (usually via the relevant Breed Club), go visit and check the place out, see mum with the litter and some adults they have, logic should tell you that this is far more likely to give you a healthy puppy. BYBs don't test, use stock originally rejected from a breeder's breeding programme because of a significant fault or two and so sold as a pet with the intention it should never reproduce. It matters not to a BYB re registration, so even if the dogs concerned are endorsed not for breeding, they just go ahead.

If you don't especially want 'a breed', please adopt from a Shelter and DON'T contribute to the income of the BYB.

So many of the mixed breeds are being called "designer dogs" and prices are through the roof. A good breeder of a purebred dog has set prices for either show quality or pet quality puppies, stands behind their dogs with lifetime health guarantees and it's easy to know how big they will get, what kind of temperament they will have and you have a breeder that can help you throughout the purebred dogs life.

Designer dog breeders are in it for the money, have no idea about health, temperament, or who or what the dog will be like when an adult.

Purebred dogs with champion parents, genetic health testing and health guarantees will be worth a heck of a lot more then a mutt or mixed breed cross. Mutts are worth only the cost of 1st shots, worming and vet visit - about $50 at the most if you can get that.

Reputable breeders don't produce mutt dogs on purpose.

mixed dogs shouldn't cost anything... its the pure breeds that are expensive... but personally i would go for a pure breed, because i would know roughly about the breed and i would know of its behaviour and any health issues... don't get me wrong i love any dog that comes my wa, in fact i'm raising a mixed puppy now... i just trust the pure breeds more, not because of the way they look though!

If they come from the same poor breeding practices that would lead someone to intentionally breed a litter of mutts, than neither is worth anything. Mutts can be had at every shelter in this country and poorly bred purebred dogs are hardly in short supply either, and are more often than not genetic time bombs.

Yes....Pure Breed dogs are just that pure breed....mixed breeds are mutts...Hopefully the people breeding the pure breeds are having their dogs health checked and are breeding responsible, this is the biggest reason for the increased price of the puppy. People can generally go to any animal shelter to get mutts, and even sometimes to get pure breeds, so hopefully no one is deliberately creating more mutts hoping to sell them.

A well bred purebred of any breed will be costly. Poorly bred purebreds and mixed breeds with designer names can be sold to an ignorant buyer for inflated amounts. It just depends on the current market.

Mixed breed dogs usually have FREE at the top of the ad.

I would pay more for whichever pups come from totally health tested parents who themselves come from totally screened parents etc.

So if you are thinking of breeding and trying to get as much money as you can then it depends whether you find stupid owners who don't know what to look for when buying a puppy, or those that assume a "designer" name is so much the in thing that they are prepared to pay more.
