Looking for incite on eating behavior in my dogs?

My two dogs, especially my Golden really seem like they need my approval and permission to eat their food. They will eat on their own, this is more of a tendency than a constant thing. I am just looking for some incite on this behavior. Is it a sign of respect to me that they wait for my approval to eat or is it over dependency? something else?

Just curious, again, it is not a problem that I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with, as they will eventually eat if I ignore them I am just wondering what it means.

Sounds like, whether you realize it or not, that you've trained your dogs well ala NILIF. Keep encouraging the behavior with a 'go ahead' or 'okay'. (I think you mean insight)

It's True. You are the alpha. I just realized I have a dog that does the same thing. She will not eat if I am in the room or even looking at her.

Mine all do that too. don't fall for that old alpha nonsense, this has nothing to do with considering you an alpha. It probably has more to do with waiting to see if you are going to add more to the dish....LOL

To me it means that they view you as the alpha of the pack, their leader so to speak.

    It's a good thing.
