Why is my cat's urine so strong?
My cat is now two. He has been neutered and stays indoors. He is very healthy, active, and drinks plenty of water. My only complaint is the over-powering aroma that comes from his urine.
Ever since my cat was a kitten, his urine has been very potent! I made the mistake of buying plain cat litter and almost choked when I walked into the same room with the box. I changed to multiple-cat litter, but still the smell is over-whelming. I try to keep the box cleaned out. I even put baking soda in with the litter. There is even an air freshener in the room. Nothing seems to help.
Any suggestions?
Getting rid of my baby is NOT an option!

If you feed kibble that may be why or contribute to it. Cats need grain free canned or raw (if you want to feed raw do research first) for health reasons but it will dilute his pee which should make it smell less.
And no its not normal for males. I have 2 neutered male cats and their pee doesn't have a strong smell.

You is also in a position to make use of a product referred to as PetZyme to be had at Petsmart. I attempted Urine Gone with little outcome. We not too long ago learned this product and had been cheerful with the outcome. (However, the guidelines name for enabling the product ten mins to completely saturate the ground - I left it approximately 4 hours.) One factor: I do not understand how this product might paintings with wooden flooring. It says "Ideal to be used on carpets, upholstery, puppy beds, apparel, and different surfaces." It does not particularly point out picket, and I'm no longer certain what this may do to the conclude. Of direction, technically, the ground is ruined besides, so I do not suppose you might have a lot alternative than to danger ruining the conclude. You'll want a blacklight to discover the targeted areas of the urine. Petsmart sells one referred to as a stinkfinder. Walmart has a blacklight that's higher and no more luxurious. What you would must do is that this; Once you find the smell, if the product does not paintings on picket, then you can also must name a chippie (severely) to return in and take away the hardwood and subflooring that has been soaked with cat urine. You don't have any manner of figuring out how lengthy that is been there...or how lengthy the cat used to be allowed to urinate within the room. Sometimes there is just one technique to do away with that odor...and that is ripping out the whole lot that has been in touch. I wish it does not come to these extremes, but when it does, don't forget the blacklight trick. That would possibly preserve you from having to redo the whole flooring, and prevent a few cash! Good success! We have 5 cats, so you might have our sympathies!

Normal for a male cat, neutered or not.
All you can do is keep the box clean, make sure he dilutes by drinking lots of freh water, and buying an ionizer machine for the room. (I got an Oreck, expensive but really works!)
Also, charcoal bags (purchase at petsmart) keep odor in check.
I finally broke down and bought an electrical self cleaning box too...use clumping litter and it cleans itself after cat leaves a present. Really cool. If I didnt do these things, the cat would not still be here cause he really stinks. So I feel your pain....

It's becuase he drinks too much. But it is only natural that cat urine is string especially males. If cats were like dogs then there would be alot of dead trees. Cat urine can kill a tree. Serious.
