No more than anyone else on intravenous antibiorics. It's not as if antibiotics have anything to do with diabetes. While at the hospital, their meals will be planned and insulin will be injected on a sliding scale so a diabetic patient may be better off in hospital as they would be forced to control their glucose levels. They usually make me peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the night time insulin shot.

I completely agree with gazeygoo. I've been a type 1 diabetic for 27 years and just recently (past couple of years) had some pretty bad infections. I got MRSA and was on antibiotics for 6 weeks. I also recently got some bad infections in an open sore on my foot and have been on antibiotics for 3 weeks and it may be longer. It just depends on the infection. My control is excellent, but I still have to be on them for a while. Unfortunately as diabetics, things affect us differently than the rest of the population. Good luck with everything and watch the blood sugars

Not enough information, what type of antibiotic, what type of infection, how well controlled is this diabetic, age of patient, other health related issues etc etc.

It could be as little as just a few days.
Source(s): I've received intravenous antibiotics and been discharged after 2 days, though I do agree with gazeygoo that it depends on what type of infection and what type of antibiotics are being used.
