Fired from Steak N Shake over facebook status, do i have options?

I was fired from a Steak 'N Shake chain restaurant in Danville, IL on September 11, 2011 over an insensitive 9/11 related facebook status which follows:

'Breakfast was bussssy as hell, wish I could crash a plane into Steak n shake.'.

The post was meant to be nothing more than a joke..cruel and wrong, yes, but nothing more. I wasn't being serious in any way. I did not know the repercussions would be. Immediate termination. It was posted on my 30min break when I had left the building and went home.

At about 10pm that night I got a call from my GM saying she didn't know what I posted but it needed to be removed and immediately if there was a hope of saving my job. I did just that, and posted an apology but minutes later I received the call that she was ordered by corporate to terminate me. Is there anything I could do about this? I actually really liked my job, loved the people I worked with, still do. And worked my *** off..came in early, stayed over late everytime they needed someone to. I couldn't have been suspended with a warning? I apologize to anyone and everyone who feels I personally disrespected them with my insensitive joke..I now know the line that shouldn't be crossed..

First of all, sorry about your job loss. Second of all, that was an extremely unfunny joke. You have to be aware of sensitive matters. I don't think there is anything you can do to get your job back. Any company has the right to terminate you if they feel you are representing the company in a bad way, and that includes what you do in your free time. You just have to be a little professional.

you never talk about work online. and seriously? joking about 9/11? that is absolutely sick. a crap load of people died and you try to be funny? well, nothing you can do now. btw the "joke" wasn't even funny. however, im glad you know that you have crossed the line. but saying that you wish you could crash a plane into stake and shake can be considered a threat so you might not be aloud back. nothing you can really do now, but go to your boss or whoever, look them straight in the eye, and say "i'm sorry" you might not get your job back, but you will gain their respect(:

i understand that your intentions werent to get you fired, but next time think about the consequences.

You can sue the company, but that would be very expensive....... I would just take the situation and think of it like a new opportunity.... You can pretty much do anything with your life right now....... Or you can beg for your job back...... Idk what help that would be bu it might do some good....

This is why you never write anything about your job ever. Not even on a napkin.

    As AF said, don't sue.

    You technically did threaten them.

It's really up to them, if they want to fire you, that's up to them.

Explain the situation to them, and if they don't give you your job back, then don't pursue it further.
