Were the Prophets of Christianity telling lies and half-truths?

I presume that some of the prophetic info said by the prophets and what is written of them, is determined by God(as in God is "forcing the hand"[and minds] of prophets and scribes etc. to actually give us accurate info from time to time. However, there were, and are times even today, when God allows the prophets and their writers of the prophecies, to tell lie and half-truths.What percentage is fact,fiction,half-truth and "faction" is hard to know.Bible quote from the prophet Jeremiah of the Old Testament :Jeremiah Chapter 8,verse 8.(Please see all these bible versions,New King James Version,NIV,Good News Bible,Youngs Literal Translation)"How can you say that you are wise and that you know my laws? Look, the laws have been changed by dishonest scribes."

There are also some concepts of this within Islam, please see Wikipedia entry called "Tahrif" and also "Criticism of Judaism" -Wikipedia entry,Islamic Criticism section..QUOTE from that entry here. Here in this quote there are criticisms of the prophet Ezra :"The character of Ezra, who was presumed to be the figure mentioned by the Qur'an (albeit with no corroborative evidence to suggest Ezra & Uzair to be the same person) became important in the works of the later Andalusian Muslim scholar Ibn Hazm who explicitly accused Ezra of being a liar and a heretic who falsified and added interpolations into the Biblical text. In his polemic against Judaism, Ibn Hazm provided a polemical list of what he considered "chronological and geographical inaccuracies and contradictions; theological impossibilities (anthropomorphic expressions, stories of fornication and whoredom, and the attributing of sins to prophets), as well as lack of reliable transmission (tawatur) of the text"'

So continuing, many Old Testament prophets were guilty of tellings lies and half-truths.But I also think the people who wrote the Gospels of the New Testament were guilty of this too. The New Testament writers themselves were guilty of "Tahrif" ,as well as many Catholic Popes, early Church Father ,and prophets of the Virgin Mary, like Sister Lucia of "Our Lady of Fatima" .I also think that Prophet Muhhamed himself (peace be upon him)was guilty of "Tahrif" .According to the Hadiths( please double check as I may have my facts wrong) ,Muhhamed was visited by the angel Gabriel or some other angelic creature. Some Christian writers and priests think this may have been a demon. It is stated that Muhhamed(peace be upon him) was choked by this angelic creature.Do God's angels choke and strangle their prophets- no.This does sound like something a demon would do though, and has been documented. There are other details I fail to remember.

However,God through Jesus has told me that the prophet Muhhamed himself (peace be upon him) was a true prophet ordained for that task by Almighty God.But he did not do what God told him to do half the time (in relation to this question). On this note,I also add ,it is also true that many Catholic Christian prophets themselves, of Muhhameds era were also guilty of not doing what God told them to do half the time. This is why God allowed Islam to become almost a competition of soughts, with Christianity.

There is NO such thing as " Catholic Christian prophets" None of the Prophets in the bible were Catholic. Catholicism came into being hundreds of years after the death of the Apostles, at which time ALL prophecy related to God's word was already recorded.

Scholars will disagree on these findings . They do not agree for certain on who wrote certain books .

The OT must be interpreted in the light of its setting as with any ancient manuscript. Sargon the Great was placed in a basket for safety prior to Moses' excursion which shows by attributing this story to Moses or Sargon these men were held in high esteem.

You should check out the results of the "Jesus Seminar" where they vote on which parts of the New Testament they think are for real, etc. Absolute consensus is rare. Fundies would not be happy with this.

No Islam is false. It denies that Christ died for our sins and rose again, it teaches against Jesus teachings, they teach to kill and oppress non-muslims, while Jesus taught to pray and love enemies. It worships a moon god. It also claims Jesus was only a prophet, but Jesus proved he is the Son of God. He still proves it today and proved it to me. He proved it by miracles, casting demons out, forgiving of sins, fulfilling prophecy from the OT, etc...

Jesus Christ is the Son of God my Lord.

    Islam doesn't offer spiritual salvation.

Once again, your statement has a report of an astounding event:

"However,God through Jesus has told me ......."

And this, we may trust, was not just a strong feeling, not an hallucination, not something caused by a temporary imbalance in the chemistry in your brain, but actual soundwaves, caused by the air in the lungs of Jesus being shaped by His lips, and impacting on your eardrum.

Source(s): I used to work in a hospital. Those who clearly heard Jesus spekaing to them, and those who clearly heard Satan speaking to them, were confined to the same ward. I hope you are well.

    Hi

The original Bible is lost, the one Jesus wrote himself. Today we have a copy of a copy of a copy and so inspired by a man named Paul.

Paul was a rabbi who hated Jesus and he never even met Jesus in his original form. Paul said he met the 'spirit' of Jesus on his way to see Jesus die and that is how Christianity came to be. It isnt according to Jesus but by Paul who never met the messiah. John wasnt even wrriten by John, neither was Mark and so.

Oscar, are you saying those things because of a fact or thoeries and what you heard?

The concept of the bicameral mind explains a lot.

"The voice of God" appears to have been the effect of an earlier stage of development of the human brain.

You're thinking too hard into it. God is a hypocritical scumbag that allows evil so as long as it serves a point. He is perfectly content to let his "children" suffer and die, all the while shaking his head and telling them "I told you so." You don't have to analyze the text into something that makes sense, because frankly it's a bunch of nonsense.

    Lies.

  • They were profoundly flawed individuals who worked miracles when God insisted they do so.
