Medical billing online school?

I want to look into taking some classes online. I am interested in medical billing and coding or physcians assistant. When I look online they want me to fill out a form so they can call me. I really don't want to be harrassed by them yet, I am just curious how much it costs, how long it takes, and what kinds of classes I would be taking. So if anyone has done this, or knows a way I can look into it with out having someone call me it would be great.

I'm a certified medical coder employed in the industry for the past 3-4 years. My sister is CPC certified.

To answer your question, I strongly believe that the distance learning division of your local community college is your best bet here. Sure there are a number of online medical coding & billing schools but most of them are quite expensive as they operate on a "for profit" basis.

If you're keen to study online then I recommend that you focus on getting certified by nationally-accredited organizations like AAPC or AHIMA. Both of these are the highest apex bodies in the medical coding industry and their credentials are valid across the US.

The former offers the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential while the latter has the CCS and CCS-P credentials. Both are exam-based certifications and you can prepare for them online (self paced). When you're ready, simply appear for the exams in your local city or county. It takes 70% to pass the CPC exam.
