How long to replace Vehicle Speed Sensor?

My Ford Focus 2001 1.4 is having issues where the speedometer intermittently cuts out especially when the weather is damp and cold.

On research i know what this issue is and also know that the part is quite inexpensive (assuming that my car is a IB5 gearbox?) How do i know exactly if my car is an IB5 as i would rather me get the part than a dealer.

Plus how long on estimate would you think that it would take to replace and at what cost labour wise?

That part would come from your local ford agent, if you quote the reg no of the car they will supply you the part and tell you what type of gearbox is in your car, you should get away with being charged an hours labour at most back street garages, about £50

Some manufacturers put the speed sensor inside the tranny and they have to operate to get it out. Some have it outside the transmission and it just unscrews or has a small bolt that comes off easily. In most cars it's a small electric motor like a tiny generator that produces current when it spins.

Might look for one in the junkyard. And have the junkyard dude show you where it is located and then you can see if it's do-able yourself.

    Good Luck!
