Is margarine one ingredient shy from being plastic?

My mother was telling me the other day that my aunt told her years back that she read an article that if margarine had one other ingredient it would then be plastic. Is this true.? Please give me a valid response. Thank you.

There is a long blog about that, but the basic answer is No

Read this as the response as I would distract from the whole sense of it to copy and past just parts.

    It is that

question that the answer is "no". You could not simply add a molecule to

margarine and make plastic milk jugs or pop bottles.

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE from being PLASTIC... ( this fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated , this means hydrogen is added changing the molecular structure of the food ) YOU can try this yourself, purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area, within a couple of days you will note a couple of things, no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it,( that should tell you something) it does not rot, smell differently...Because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it, even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow...Why? because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast?

    Pointless.

Chicken nuggets are one ingredient away from being gasoline. (Just puree the nuggets and add gasoline...)

Broccoli is one ingredient away from being candy. (Just add corn syrup.)

All organic chemistry is related. If you wanted to, you could convert margarine into diamonds. The point your mother is making is invalid and irrelevant to whether or not margarine is actually a healthy food.

something like smart balance or benocol spreads are the best types of non butter spreads.

but the standard margarines are still probably unhealthy because they are hydrogenated oils but most aren't the same as years ago.

probably much healthier to eat butter than margarine
