I'm looking for some (not melodic) death metal bands. (see description)?
for the longest time, 90% of the extreme metal I've listened to has been Melodeth and I'm wanting to try something heavier. I've tried posting similar questions, but haven't been getting the results I've wanted... probably due to the way I word my questions.
I want bands with high production quality, no scuzz or "rawness", so preferably new bands. In old school/traditional death metal, I prefer Deep growls... but not so "brutal that I can't understand a word they're saying. And I prefer slower, heavy riffs. For example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMcJHhyrvuY (I LOVE the first about 40 seconds of the song, and the choruses. The rest I like too, it's just the parts I mentioned that takes the cake for me)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBfoMgllphs (this is probably my favourite "oldschool" style DM song)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLuZpuW9GfM (not exactly pure "oldschool" DM, but it shows the kind of thing I'm getting at)
For Technical/Progressive DM, I like bands with some bit of a melodic element to them. I'm not really sure how else to put it, but basically nothing too brutal. The kind of Tech/Prog Death I'm looking for is like this stuff:

This is NOT what I want:

thanks so much if you take the time to read, listen, and answer.
@Tron: actually, I do like CC, especially the album Eviceration Plague
@Rawheat: do you happen to know any more bands like Runemagick? I looked them up, and they sound amazing.

Hey man,
Sorry, I'm not very knowledgeable in the Death Metal you seek.
However if I would recommend DM from my own collection, I would say these.
Trample The Weak, Hurdle The Dead by Skinless

Pretty brutal, but I think the riffs are amazing.
Like Angels Weeping by Kataklysm

Murderer by Krisiun

Culinary Hyperversity by Necrophagist

Hopefully one of the songs was in your interest range. If not, good luck. Haha

Old School Death Metal without rawness is like Thrash Metal without speed. Anyway, try some work of early Amorphis and later albums by Bolt Thrower and Asphyx.
Edit: since you mentioned liking slower and heavier sound, you should also try giving Death/Doom metal bands a listen. Try Runemagick, Ataraxie, Evoken, Esoteric, etc.

i cant look at your links because im on a welfare office computer
Deicide - album called 'scars of the crucifix', serpents of the light, but most people i know used to go on about 'once upon a cross'
Cannibal Corpse - 'Butchered at Birth' album, and 'Tomb of the mutilated' wasnt bad, but anything after their 'vile' album sucked
Prostitute disfigurement - there last couple of albums suck, because they changed the vocals, look up the song 'on her guts i ***'
Six feet under had some good songs, the album 'maximum violence' was good..its the old Cannibal corpse singer
Dying fetus and cephalectomy also good bands
Source(s): for slow heavy riffs...Mortician, songs are short but very heavy e.g 'skin peeler' - How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.
