Should a widowed mother on a fixed (low) income still provide a car & ins. for her 50 yr old daughter?

How about a car and ins. for her 27 year old granddaughter? Is that expecting too much? Should they have to do any maintenance on the car or put gas in it? Provide tires if they wear them out, wipers, repair things they break? Mother has only one vehicle and cannot buy another. Daughter has two, but doesn't keep them in repair and has had some wrecks.

Update:

Thanks for the responses. I thought maybe I was being harsh, but I feel a few family members are taking advantage of another... perhaps to the point of elderly abuse. Thank you for validating my concerns.

The daughter is taking advantage of her mother, and has passed down her free-loading ways to her own daughter. If the two of them want cars, they are old enough to have jobs and keep the maintenance up themselves. Other family members need to step in and put and end to this nonsense.

No, unless you have a lot of savings in the bank then maybe you could help out with a cheap used car if you really feel like you want to. But if you barley have any money for yourself, there is absolutely no reason two adults cannot take care of themselves. And everything else is their own responsibility. You do not have to do anything, nor feel guilty for not doing anything. You have to maintain your health and household.

They do this to you because you let them....put your foot down & cut the umbilical cord!! These ladies are toooo old to be still depending on u!! Life is to short to be worrying about other peoples problems!! Go out & have fun....take that $ & treat yourself to something nice!!! :-)

both your daughter and granddaughter are adults that should be taking care of themselves it is not your responsibility to take care of them and pay their expenses. if you do u would be an enabler and not to sound harsh but then when u are gone they will be screwed. you need to quit helping them so they will be responsible for themselves and learn the true meaning of being an adult.
