Could we just leave the American Horse alone and not make him breakfast?

The American Horse helped build this country and we spend hundreds of millions of dollars on horse shows and racing. If a horse has to die if it's old or sick, we should just put them down humanely and respect what the horse has done for this country. If we open up Slaughter houses again as proposed the meat only goes to Japan Belgium and France. Do you really want foreigners eating our heritage? And no shipping them off to Canada either for slaughter. Have you actually seen a slaughter house video for horses? It's disgusting.

PS

I also think everyone should go see "War Horse" when the movie comes out and then tell me that it's OK to hang them upside down and cut their throats. Horses can be brave just like humans. I have seen the preview and it looks truly awesome.

Update:

BTW the horse originated in the Americas, and was wiped out until europeans brought them back. If not for America there would have been no horse as we know it today.

Over time wild ancestors of the modern horse evolved for millions of years in north America. They then spread to other parts of the world by travelling southwards to south America by crossing land bridges that connected north America to Europe and Asia during the ice age.

Horses vanished from both north and south America in a wave of extinction that occurred at the end of the Pleistocene epoch, about 15,000 years ago, then brought back in 1494.

Update 2:

boy are you pickin at straws Last Name. I would of course include phillies, but I think that is even more disgusting. No offense intended. Gee whiz.

Update 3:

Look guys and gals the SUBJECT is Horses, not anything else. One animal at a time. Try and stay n track.

Update 4:

And Thorcorn, whatever that is I am an American born in Massachusetts, one of the 13 original states, silly boy. Oh and a JFK Democrat BTW, you silly foreigner.

    What??

American's don't generally eat horses.... never have.

But what difference does it make what happens to the horse after it's dead?

I live in Colorado.... every 3-4 months I see a story about someone going to jail because they had a bunch of starving horses on their property. Every year they round up a few hundred WILD horses.... because they are overcrowded, literally having eaten all of the grass.

People keep pet pigs too... that doesn't prevent me from eating bacon.

To me a horse is a funny shaped moose, and I like moose meat. I am an omnivore, but the older I get, the more interested I am in vegetarianism. Getting soft in my old age I suppose. Still, horses are closer to wild animals in nutritional qualities, so, likely to be much healthier to eat than cows. Certainly they should have less fats and better muscle.

Are horses more deserving of humane treatment than cattle or pigs? Are cattle or pigs in some way less valuable?
