Have you ever heard this interpretation of the 12 days of Christmas & what do you think of it?

I totally see the symbolism. Obviously, geese means "creation" when you have six of them. And leaping lords are obviously commandments. And nothing says "virtue" like hens.

You know, Martin, there will always be deniers and old scrooges, but true or not, it is a lovely story, and I will probably never sing this song again without thinking of this lovely myth. Any version of "All i choose For Christmas is My 2 front tooth" the place a grown guy tries to sound like slightly boy. Ditto with "i'm Gettin' Nothin' For Christmas." that's like nails on a chalkboard. ***extra: Oh, and a similar is actual for "I observed Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." surprisingly plenty each time an person impacts a cutesy kiddie voice, i visit get annoyed.

Yes, I have read this before. I recall the theory is that the song was used to be able to openly celebrate a specific theological interpretation of Christianity at a time when doing so was illegal in England. I do not recall the details though. It would not be the only case, there are evidently other similar 'coded' songs and things like Mozart's "Magic Flute" is overwhelmed with Free Masonic references and story lines that were intended to be recognized by those who knew about them, but not by the uninitiated.

The focus of the interpretation is inconsistent. It's based on the the gift in verses 2-12 and not 'my true love', which is referred to in all 12 verses of the song. But in the first verse the gift, the partridge in a pear tree, is completely ignored.

Yes, I have heard this before and you are quite correct. It was taught to, and sung by Catholic children to remind them of the basics of their faith at a time when Catholicism was outlawed in England by King Henry VIII. Because it seemed like a nonsensical jingle they got away with it and avoided persecution

oh sounds good, but I'm surprised the no. 12 doesn't refer to the 12 patriarchs or the 12 disciples.
