Do any of you seniors ever send ecards for birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries etc.?
Some people love them but some seem to be insulted when the card has not cost the sender a penny.
I think that's a shame. No-one is suggesting that the recipient should use their paper and ink and print the card off. It can be stored in an email for as long as a person wishes.
I appreciate any way of saving money which is available to me and having paid the initial outlay to have a computer and broadband connection etc. I think "Why not use it at every opportunity?" I personally love ecards.

Yup. Why waste paper and slow snail mail? But....it is always fun to receive things in the mailbox. It's a tossup.

I use both. I buy cards for birthdays and some for Christmas. I send ecards with personalized messages when I happen to think of an old friend that I hadn't heard from for awhile. It's no less personal than that of making a difference between a phone call or an email.

I enjoy getting a few ecards, but wouldn't want 80 of them. I send paper Christmas cards every year.
The only e-cards I will send are
* if my niece is moving again and I don't know the new address yet; or
* If I receive one that is exceptionally beautiful or funny, and I forward it for that reason to my email friends (who also get a paper card if I have their address).
Our Mom started this tradition and my sister and I both do in our homes. We get a large piece of gift wrap and staple it to a wall. I use a whole rectangle and my sister shapes hers like a Christmas tree, and we hang the cards we receive in the mail on the paper. It makes a great decoration, and everyone can see and read the cards easily, as they're all in plain sight.

I love ecards especially the funny ones IMO they're a great way to keep in touch & makes someone's day with a smile. But I send snail mail cards to my fam on birthdays etc plus an ecard

I sent a birthday ecard just yesterday and had a telephone call in return thanking me for it and saying how lovely it was. It was one of those that actually does things - 'click here' and the candles on the cake are all suddenly alight, 'click again' and a bunch of balloons start to pop etc.
The recipient gets free calls on her phone so neither of us paid anything for the interaction between us and both enjoyed it. There is nothing wrong in using things that are free.
You have to know the other person well enough to do it though. I have an in-law who would call me a 'cheap-skate' if I sent her one. She likes that word which is rather sad I think.

I often send both. But I do send e-cards at Thanksgiving and other minor holidays and events. I feel that a birthday card should be especially picked out for that person. The money isn't the issue. Also I know that I like to have my birthday cards out on display.
Also, I do have friends who have never bought or learned how to use a computer.

No. I think it's a bit lazy, even if they are personalised. If you really want to send Christmas greetings, then send a card. Of course, since Christmas cards which have religious motives (like the birth of Jesus, rather than robins, Father Christmas and holly trees) are hard to come by, I usually down load pictures from the Internet and make my own cards.

I don't think there's any thing wrong with e-cards. I've sent and received them.
But now I send cards that I make, decorate, or purchase.
A few years ago, e-cards were the source of a tremendous amount of spam and spy-ware. I don't send them anymore. Hmmm. Has all that been cleaned up?

I send ecards and include a personalized message. No one has ever complained about being remembered.
