Can a cat's testicles grow back after being neutered?

I swear my 8 month old kittens testicles grew back after his fix. I've heard this is possible, but never from any credible source.

Also, my husband is of the opinion that if he managed to grow them back, he deserves to keep them. He's an indoor cat and my females are fixed, so there is no problem there, but I am not sure I want a big tom cat in the house. What are your thoughts on re-fixing?

Update:

Kristy, if I wanted to use google I would be on that site instead. OH NO! Someone asked this question before!! THAT"s never happened before!!!! Also, did the previous question on google include the second part of my question?

Vasectomy's can be reversed, but not neutering a cat. Testicles do not grow back.

Neutering is the surgical removal of a male (tom) cat's testicles. During the procedure, each of the cat's testes and testicular epididymi are removed along with sections of the feline's testicular blood vessels and spermatic ducts (vas deferens or ductus deferens). The remainder of the male cat's reproductive tract structures: the prostate, bulbourethral gland, urethra, penis and much of the cat's testicular blood vessels and spermatic ducts, are left intact. Basically, the parts of the male reproductive tract that get removed are those which are responsible for sperm production, sperm maturation and the secretion of testosterone (the major male hormone). Removal of these structures plays a big role in feline population control (without sperm, the tomcat can not father young); genetic disease control (male cats with genetic disorders can not pass on their inheritable disease conditions to any young if they can not breed); prevention and/or treatment of various medical disorders (e.g. castration prevents and/or treats a number of testicular diseases and testosterone-enhanced medical conditions) and male cat behavioral modification (testosterone is responsible for many tomcat behavioral traits that some owners find problematic - e.g. roaming, aggression, inter-male aggression, dominance, urine spraying - and castration, by removing the source of testosterone, may help to resolve these issues).

Nope - but many vets leave the sacs so it appears to have testicles (some do, some don't). If you feel the sacs they will be empty. If you are in doubt, take the cat to the vet to be checked.

There may have been a mistake and the wrong cat got neutered at the time or the office just missed him being scheduled (it has happened). Either way, the cat should be neutered or you risk him spraying all over the house and tom cat urine is next to impossible to get out of wood floors, rugs, carpets, etc.

It's very unlikely they grew back. I don't like to say things are impossible, but if your vet did the job correctly it wouldn't happen.

Might warrant a checkup at the vet to see if anything's up.

Personally, I wouldn't want to live with an intact male tomcat ever again - been there, done that. Even as an outdoor stray (now neutered) it was terrible. They *spray*. Often. And trust me, the smell of tomcat spray is not something you'll forget, or want to smell if you can help it. Even outdoors, it's pungent - I'd hate to have it in a house.

    No they can't grow back.

Tom's are really hard to tell if they are neutered unless you actually palpate the scrotum. if you do that you will easily be able to tell he is neutered. You may want to contact your vet and make sure both testicles where removed. It's possible they only removed one and the other one was still in the abdomen and has now descended.

Not all vets neuter some do vasectomies. So call your vet and check with them. It's also possible that there could be an infection or something.

If your vet did his/her job correctly, they will not grow back. If the vet didn't do the job correctly, take the cat back and have the procedure done correctly, for free of course. Either way, check with your vet. What you are seeing/feeling may only be scar tissue.

No, it's not possible, unless your cat is part salamander.
