Why didnt i get promoted?

I work at McDonald's and I am a junior in high school. I have two friends that work their that i knew before i got the job and i started before them. They have been working their a few months and i have been working their for 2 years. They just got promoted and i didn't. I know i am a hard worker and i do what they tell me to the best of my ability. why didn't i get promoted yet? im not mad at my friends or anything and im actually happy for them its just that i have worked their way longer and my managers haven't even mentioned promoting me. I know its not a big deal and just a temporary job until i finish high school and college but it wont hurt to be making more money.

Best thing to do is ask your manager how you can improve your performance for a promotion that will tell it all.

But stay positive if you know your a hard worker maybe he/she has something better in mind for you.

Working hard and length of service is not as relevant to being promoted as people think. Yes, they're important. But that doesn't necessarily make you a reliable, good leader who is capable of making important decisions and handling the every day responsibility of being a manager.

How are your leadership skills? How do you act when supervisors aren't around? Are you professional 100% of the time? How is your attendance? How is your customer service? How is your attitude towards your co-workers and your work tasks? Do you complain? Have you taken the initiative to tell your supervisors that you are interested in taking on more responsibility or taking a step into management? Do you volunteer to come in to cover sick calls? How do you present yourself - are you clean and well-groomed? Do you go above and beyond to do everything that you can for your customers as well as your co-workers?

Reassess these skills. You may think you are great at all or most of them, but in reality, you're not. Ask your supervisors what you need to improve on. Seek constructive criticism to help you improve. Humble yourself - realize that you are not nearly as perfect as you think you are.

Also, I know you mentioned that this is a temporary job - that is a red flag to managers. Why would they invest the time, money, and resources into training someone into becoming a manager if they're only in it for a short time? Having the attitude that "it won't hurt to be making more money" shows your true intentions. Being a manager is not just about having a fatter paycheck.

Remember; employees are investments. Businesses decide how much they are going to put in versus how much they are going to get in return. To be promoted, you must be the best of the best out of their options.

Think about arranging a meeting with your boss and just ask them directly. You're never going to know otherwise. Also, 2 years is quite a long time to be working in one catering job, have you considered working elsewhere?? Now is a good time to be thinking about changing jobs - its good to get experience of other catering establishments if you are going to be doing it for any length of time.

    Good luck
