How much $ 4 niece's marriage?

My niece got married. She was engaged, but she got preg so they eloped (which I respect). They've been living together for about half a yr. How much should I spend on a wedding present and gift (check)?? I'm not that close to her (she's in another state), but she's always nice to me. No problems with her parents either. For reference; if it was a niece/nephew I was close to and went to the wedding and reception, I'd spend about $500. But that'd also be for setting up a new household (isn't it?).

I'm sure they're still setting up their household and will have expenses with the baby, so don't make lack of need a reason to give them less money.

Any amount is fine, and I'd call $500 darn right generous for a niece. Whatever amount you decide, I would give the same to any siblings of hers that get married in the future, even if they do the proper wedding/reception and setting up first home thing that she hasn't done in that order.

If u can afford it then I think $500 is more than enough.
