If someone were to leave a baby on a doorstep, would the recipients be allowed to keep it?
You know how in movies or books someone might leave a baby on a doorstop. The classic scene when a character hears the doorbell ring, they answer the door and at first appear angry at answering the door to no-one, but then they look down as they see that they have been entrusted with taking care of a child. If that really happened, would the recipients of the baby legally be allowed to keep the child and be its guardians, simply because the mother (Or whoever it was) chose them to be the guardians?

You would need to prove that this was the mother's wishes.
Back in the days of old, sure. But this day and age you would need official documentation, video, sound, etc.
But even with those things it would still be a social services issue, and you would still need to stand in front of a judge to argue your case, if you wanted to keep the child.
And until then the child would be put into the care system.

No.
The child would be immediately put into foster care, and if parents didn't come forward, the child would probably be put in long-term foster care or be adopted.
If a child is dumped on a doorstep, you need to be CRB checked, go through training and be checked by the courts to look after that child.

that was back in the days, things r not like that anymore.
i guess it could happen if no1 knew about it.
or some knows people in the legal system.
or if the legal system could not find the parents/family and told the person whose doorstep the baby was left on that if they are willing to keep the baby they could legally adopt it rather than putting it in the system.
there could b more options but i wouldn't know them, i don't study law.

if it was down in writing (lawyers etc.) that they were the chosen guardians then maybe, if not then the baby would be taken into care and you would have to go through the adoption/fostering process just like everybody else.

no, everything has to be legal and has to go through the legal system. the ppl the baby was left with could foster the child until its decided who she would go with or adopt if the baby doesnt have any other relatives.
