Is Mitt too rich to be President?

The American dream is to have the opportunity to be successful. The dream is to raise your standard of living and to live the good life. The dream is to be able to make sure your Kids get a good education so they can exceed your own success. The Dream is to be able to help others in need. The dream is to do this completely within the Laws of the land. The the Dream is to Help our Country do even better.

Now Mitt's Parents grew up poor and raised themselves up, made sure their Kids got a good Education. His father George rose to be President of American Motors and to be Governor of Michigan. Yes they made sure their son Mitt got a good Education, but did not send him into the world with a silver spoon. He inherited little form his parents other than a great work ethic and compassion for others. Yes they Helped Mitt and Ann buy their first home like all successful and even those not so successful try to do.

Mitt then went out on his own, started a Business, worked for others and rose to the top. Yes he made a lot of money along the way. He tithed to his church and donated to other charity, he served as a Missionary for his Church, He Served in other Non Paid Church positions (None were ever paid as the LDS Church has an unpaid Lay Ministry). When he was ask to come help pull the Winter Olympics from death throes, he went and served very successfully and took no pay for it. As Governor of Mass. he took only a symbolic $1.00 per year as salary. He pays his Taxes according to the law and does not cheat on his taxes unlike some others in Government.

Now the the People in Northern Florida are saying "He is too Rich to be President". Does this mean that the people who want to live the American Dream are jealous of those that succeed? Perhaps prefer to be lead and taught by those that either failed or were not nearly as successful as Mitt. I know that Liberal feel the way to achieve the American dream is to take from the working rich and redistribute to the slacker poor. Take from those that stayed in School and give to the Drop outs. What do you want? What qualities do you want in a President?

Update:

@truth: You are correct of course, however, Mitt had nothing to do with making the goofy tax laws in this country. Of interest, it has been noted in the Liberal press that only about 20% of Americans paid a tax rate higher than 15%. Mitt has this rate because almost all of his income is from investments made while he was working, that is, he saved a lot. In addition he gives a great deal to charity which lowers the rate a bit and I would hope most Americans do likewise. BTW He has not controlled his investments for many years as they are in a blind trust. As for myself, I do not control my investments either even though they are not in a blind trust, I just trust my accounts to professionals in order to get the best return.

Update 2:

Several great responses so far. Keep the answers coming lets hear all sides on the issue. This has been and will continue to be an issue in this election cycle.

Update 3:

@@Daisy. Yes his family (Father & Mother) had money they earned the hard way and tried to make life easier for their Kids. Wouldn't you? That alone does not bring success, it come from hard personal work and dedication and using the Education they gave him and yes, he did make contacts because of them. You make the point at the end that others with an Education still don't have the opportunities that he had to succeed. Many have had greater success without a college degree. I will attach a list of some of them. My point is that personal work and ethic is the key, Education and contacts help but they cannot do the job without the man r woman's deep dedication to the task at hand.

You too can have great success in life by working hard for it and believing in the American Dream and believing in yourself. God Bless you in your efforts.

His wealth does not figure into his worthiness to be president. Being wealthy is not a sin, nor a crime. It is what you do with the wealth that matters. He has spent endless hours and dollars on charitable endeavors. He cares about his fellow beings and champions our right to self determination. Each of us should be able to work at what we are best at without government interference of over regulation.

    Mitt is a good candidate.

Ron Paul is the best candidate for president of the United States.

But Mitt Romney is a member of the best religion. Of course I am a more than a little biased, because I am Mormon.

As far as taxes go the best thing to do is to get rid of all income taxes. The only federal taxes that there should be is taxes on products coming into the United States. That is what George Washington believed, and if it is good enough for George Washington, it is good enough for me.

Tax the tyrants. Soak em till they squeal. But not a penny of Federal taxes on anything else.

And anyone who proposes property taxes should be thrown in prison and the key should be thrown away.

And reinstate the homestead act, and give away all the Federal land to the poor. That is what George Washington supported, and the fact of the matter is he was right in just about everything he did or said.

    God bless.

I don't care how much money he has... I do care that when he release his tax records. Admittedly showing he only paid 13.9% federal taxes. Now if he was in touch with the hardships of the American people he would have said something like I can't apologize for what the federal government taxed me. I understand that when someone that makes $50,000 dollars a year is taxed 25% and someone that makes $5,000,000 dollars a year is taxed 25% it would then be fair. I understand that the person that paid $12,500 dollars in taxes was much harder to do than the person that paid $1,250,000 dollars in taxes. I understand that having $3,750,000 dollars to spend after taxes is going to cover any possible food, housing, and other living expenses and still have so much money left over you could buy a small island. I understand having only $37,500 dollars left over after taxes barely covers the expenses of food, housing, and other living expenses and you might have enough to buy a TV on credit. But I am not going to apologize for being successful. But I will make it fair across the board that someone like me pays the same percentage of taxes that the average american pays.. Because that is just fair and no-one should have to apologize for that.

I don't think Mitt is too rich to be president. But he's not running as a rich man. He's tried to paint himself as an average American. Comments like "I'm unemployed", "I understand pink slips", "I know the hard streets" are simply lies. Mitt made his money by taking over companies and either getting them on the road to success or tearing them apart. And HE USED GOVERNMENT MONEY AND CREDITS TO DO IT. Some of those companies got forgiveness from the Federal government on loans. Taxpayers paid for that. Some of them took tax credits and public financing from local governments, then closed up. Taxpayers paid for that. One of them got millions from local governments, then shut down and left the Federal government (taxpayers) to fund the employee's pension program!

But with all of the above BAIN MADE MILLIONS$$$. Success or failure of the company didn't matter: BAIN and Mitt MADE MILLIONS$$$.

Mitt's family was not poor. He not only got a superior education, he traveled in a class that met money people, influential political people, people that were key to his success later. If you think any person with a good education will have the opportunites that Mitt had, you're not very smart.

He gives a big deal to charity and didn't take a salary. Just because your rich doesn't mean your out of touch with working America.

If you consider what he didn't give to charity would have been taxed and assume the same for all the other candidates. He paid more than anyone.

Obama only paid 1% of his paycheck to charity, with a presidential salary and a wife who is still holding on to her career and two kids at home. Yeah, Romney spreads his wealth like he can't get rid of it fast enough and is an excellent example of Reaganomics. Obamanomics looks like capitolism without morals.

Lol there is no such thing as too rich for president. I don't care if the president has four eyes and blue skin, as long as they know how to PROPERLY manage the United States, and are willing to reach out to the people, then they are a good president.

As a second-generation Mexican-American he can be proud of his family ancestry -- he should also contribute to other churches than the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
