Husband had to have back surgery?

My husband had shattered a disk in his back and needed to have back surgery. He went in on January 13 and was home the same day. He has been recovering since but has decided that he is ready to return to work and wants to get back to his normal life. Besides just a little pain in his legs (which is normal) he is feeling great. However the doctor tells him he can only work 2 hour shifts and still be on bed rest. The problem with that is that he has been doing that for the past few weeks and as he is the only one with a job at this time we need him to work to care for our bills and kids. Savings is only going to last a bit longer then we would be in a world of hurt. What can we do to get him back to work if the doctor won't release him.

Difficult to say without knowing the nature of your surgery or of his job - could he work from home? I think the advice of your surgeon is paramount - ask for further advice from them if needed. You do not want to risk a failure or complication of the surgery as this will have your husband out of work for even longer. I can see how difficult your situation is so I'd seek advice from your surgeon as soon as possible and perhaps discuss with the employer whether working from home would be possible.
