  • First aid for a 2nd degree burn?

I have what I believe is a 2nd degree burn on my leg. I got it from a fire, lets just say i was being stupid and not paying attention to where I put my foot. Anyhow my pants caught fire and it burned my leg. The burn itself is about 2 1/2 inches long and about 2 inches wide. It blistered immediately but that blister broke without me doing anything to it. This happened on Monday. I have been cleaning it daily with wound cleaner and putting antibiotic ointment on it. I also put Bactine on the gaze pad, and then I wrap gaze around that. I have only been changing it once per day. My question to you is, what does a healthy healing burn wound look like. Mine seems to have some pink and then some kind of white in it. I don't know its hard to explain so I hope that makes sense to you. Also do you feel like I can continue caring for this wound at home, or should I see a doctor. Not really a huge fan of doctors with burns because when my oldest was just a little over a year he decided to grab the iron and when I rushed him to the hospital they were completely retarded about it. I ended up getting more information about how to care for his burn from a pharmacist then I did at the hospital.

  • Wood stove pouring out smoke?

I have used my wood stove since the beginning of winter without any problems. However when I went to start it this morning smoke just poured into my room. I cleaned out the ash yesterday, so that can't be the problem. The chimney was cleaned back in April of 2012. And the dapper is open all the way, but yet every time I go to start it today I get a room full of smoke. Does anyone know whats going on or what I could look at being wrong with it.

  • Need help with skin care?

Since early December I have been breaking out randomly with little itchy bumps. They itch for a few days then slowly disappear. They happen in random spots on my stomach, back arms and legs. I have not added any new cleaning/health care products to my home. The only things new to my home is a kitten, however she was in the home for about 2 weeks before I started breaking out and I have never been allergic to cats in the past. The second item new to my home is my dog had some puppies, but I am not allergic to dogs either. I thought about bed bugs but it is only affecting me and my husband sleeps right next to me every night. It isn't contagious as none of my 4 children or my husband has had any skin issues. I was wondering if anyone here might know what is going on. I have a doctors appointment set for next week but this is driving me crazy. I try not to scratch but the itching becomes unbearable at times.

  • Pug/Boston Terrier mix Pregnancy?

I am in quite a Pickle at the moment. Back in the beginning of November my Pug/Boston Terrier went into heat. One morning while she was on the Lead in the back yard a male dog came in and well basically i found them together. Now its been 40 days since the incident and I believe her to be pregnant. The only problem is that I don't have the type of money at this time for her to be pregnant. The plan was always to breed her a few years down the road so we didn't want to get her fixed. Does anyone have any advice in this department besides going to the vet, since that is already planned.

  • Rescued kitten question?

Last night my husband found a little kitten who was very skinny and in need of love so he picked it up and brought it home with him. I cleaned her up a bit and gave her food. She has now been here for almost a full 24 hours and something i have noticed is that her eyes are really runny. When I cleaned them the first time there was hard goop on them but now it just seems to be clear. They are not red or puffy and besides them she acts perfectly normal. She is eating, playing and cuddling with me. Does anyone know what this could be caused from. I don't know if this matters or not but it has been extremely windy and rainy lately.

  • Help with my 4 year old son!?

I am completely at my wits end. I have 4 children, a 6 year old, a 4 almost 5 year old, a 3 year old and a 1 year old. My 4 year old is killing me. I tell him over and over not to do stuff, i put him in time out, give him spankings, send him to his room, i would take toys away if he ever had a favorite one. Nothing is working. Like today, he keeps getting my keys and trying to unlock the doors of the van. He got them 3 different times while i was dealing with other things and I had to go chase him down and get them back. The 4th time I got them I found that he had broken the ring that was holding them so now I can't find my house key. And this is just one example, he pushes and pushes and pushes. I have tried just giving him mommy time where its just me and him, thinking that maybe he just wasn't getting enough attention. That hasn't seemed to help at all either. I truly have no Idea how to deal with it and it makes me feel like I am a bad parent. I would really like to nip this behavior in the butt before NOW, so that he isn't this way when he is older. Does anyone have any helpful Ideas on how to handle him.

  • 7 month old fell down the stairs, would like opinions.?

I had the kids upstairs, I have 4 in total. Oldest is 6 and the youngest is 7 months. My little man has been crawling since 6 months old. Well I put up the gate so he couldn't go down the stairs. I went into the laundry room to change the loads and while I was in there my 4 year old decided he was going to go downstairs. He pulled the gate down and Thomas (my baby) followed him. I hear his little scream and run out and pick him up quickly. I first focus on calming him down, which didn't take more then 5 min if that. I then checked his eyes, making sure they were the same and were dilating like they should, I took him out side and they got smaller so went back inside and they went bigger. It was his morning breakfast time but since he fell I just decided to let him have a bottle instead of food because it is more soothing for him. He ate it just fine and didn't throw any of it up. By the time he was done with his bottle he was up crawling and ready to go play again. But also by this time 3 bumps had formed on his head, so I was still really worried. However I let him down anyhow and he wasn't sleepy he just wanted to play with the others. He was smiling and acting completely normal. That happened at nine. At 11 was nap time, he did get fussy right before that but he always does so that isn't unusual. He took an hour nap and then was ready to get up and play. Between then and 2 in the afternoon I fed him a meal and he played and was completely acting normal like nothing had happened to him. Still had three bumps on his head and a couple little bruises maybe the size of a nickle. He went down for his nap at 2 and slept just fine. Woke up around 3:30. After which he played a bit, I had to run some errands so he spent some time in the van and also was fed dinner. Then at 8 he was put to bed, all my kids go to bed at that time and he has been since about 5 months. Every night the same so perfectly normal. So besides a huge fall this morning he has had a normal day. And despite it he has acted just fine. I called the doctor but didn't take him in as, like I said he was acting just fine and perfectly normal. And the doctor also just told me to watch for signs, which I was already aware of watching for.

So my question is, what would you have done in this situation. Please understand I am a mother of 4 so if I had had any inclination that he was hurt really bad i would have taken him in instantly. Most people rush their kids the the ER and there isn't really anything that can be done, falls and bumps on the head being a major one that can't really be treated. Also he isn't the first kid to fall down the stairs at one point or the other. However he is the youngest, always has to do everything earlier then the rest. He was rolling onto his tummy at 2 weeks of age.

  • Helping kids put on weight?

I am a very skinny person...after having 4 kids I weigh 110 pounds. I eat healthy ik just have a high matabolism. So I would think it is only natural for my kids to be skinny as well. My three year old daughter only weighs 28 pounds my four year old boy weighs 36 and my 6 year old boy weighs 39. I feed them good meals and even spoil them with fast food at least 3 times a month. I give them vitamins and feed them snacks anytime they ask for it. Yet they are all still so skinny. They don't have any health problems and have seen a doctor every year since being 1. Before that it was 2,4,8,10,and 12 month. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help them put on weight.

  • 6th month old with bad diaper rash.?

Ever since I started feeding my baby infant cereal I have been battling diaper rash. I always make it a point to change him a lot and put desitin on his bottom but its not helping. It comes and goes all the time doesn't matter what I put on it. In fact it can clear by me simply putting powder on it instead of cream. But comes back the next day or so. Can anyone help with what this could be

  • Asking again to get more opinions: Bad situation, what would you do with your kids?

Here is a little back ground first: I moved into a duplex 4 years ago next to a old lady. She seemed nice to begin with but the more we saw of her and the more my kids played outside the more we understood she wasn't nice at all. When I moved here I had a 1 1/2 year old and a six month old and I was pregnant with our third. We have put great effort into not letting our kids in her yard (even though there is no physical boundary set) and to keep them away from her things. But as everyone knows kids will be kids and the instant one of them would step onto the grass in her yard or reach their little hand out and touch her car (which is right next to ours) she would open the door and scream at them making them run and cry. I would like to mention that I have never let them touch her things and if they do I will tell them no, put them in time out or they get a swat on the behind. So I finally got sick of the way she was treating them and called the landlord and complained. They sent her a letter telling her to leave my kids alone or she would be evicted.

Well just 2 days ago she comes to us and says she has called the police to report a vandalism because our kids scratch her car. I went out and indeed her hood and one side of the car had been scratched pretty bad but my kids had been inside since Monday with the flu and had only been outside for about 10 min that day before I loaded them into our van and took them to the park. She said it had happened that day. Also no one around here including herself saw my kids touch her car and we have two neighbors next door. She is just assuming it was our kids because like i said they have touched her car before, even left little hand prints. So a police officer came over and asked my 4 year old (was six months when we moved here) if he had touched it and being a 4 years old and having no idea what he was talking about just kept telling him it was a blue car. But he insisted that he would come back during the day and ask him some more questions. Well the next day came and he never showed so i called the officer and asked him if he was coming, he told me he would be here tomorrow. So I have been thinking this whole time how inappropriate it is that he wants to question my 3,4,and 6 year old as they are too young to really understand what he is even talking about. Not to mention I had just spent the day taking each of my kids out there numerous times and asking them if they had touched it and all of them saying no. Even asked my 6 year old if the others had done it and he said no every time. (I know they never did but wanted to ask because the cop asked me to). I don't want them talking to the kids anymore, just doesn't seem right to me. All they would need is a yes from a kid who didn't understand and that would be enough, right? Would you let them come back and speak to your kids again even if your kids didn't understand what they were talking about? I realize that my 6 year old would understand but I also KNOW my kids didn't do it as i had my eye on them the whole 10 min they were outside that day.

  • Leak in coolant tank?

I filled my coolant tank yesterday in my 2000 plymouth Grand Voyager SE as it was super low. After doing so I noticed there was a lot of we spots on the pavement under it. So then this morning I took it down town then came back. A little later i went outside and moved it and there was some more spots on the pavement. So I looked in the tank and it was lower then yesterday. However my Radiator is full still. Is this a leak in the coolant tank? If so how much do they cost?

  • Husband had to have back surgery?

My husband had shattered a disk in his back and needed to have back surgery. He went in on January 13 and was home the same day. He has been recovering since but has decided that he is ready to return to work and wants to get back to his normal life. Besides just a little pain in his legs (which is normal) he is feeling great. However the doctor tells him he can only work 2 hour shifts and still be on bed rest. The problem with that is that he has been doing that for the past few weeks and as he is the only one with a job at this time we need him to work to care for our bills and kids. Savings is only going to last a bit longer then we would be in a world of hurt. What can we do to get him back to work if the doctor won't release him.
