So Mitt says he's not concerned about the poor...?

Romney: 'I'm not concerned about the very poor' -

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Wednesday that he's "not concerned about the very poor" because they have an "ample safety net"

What safety net is he talking about? The nets they put up in China so that Apple (Mac) workers won't commit suicide because of egregious safety and work conditions> or the 50% of Americans that are underwater on their mortgages? Or the family of 6 that can barely sustain themselves in Tennessee, and have to eat Polk salad and beans every day and travel 50 miles for medical care? Just what was he thinking? What does Mitty know about being poor?

    Not true.

Some friends of Mitt's couldn't afford toilet paper for their private jet to fly to the Superbowl so he gave them a wad of $10 bills to use,

Here is the full quote to put it in context:

"I'm in this race because I care about Americans. I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it. I'm not concerned about the very rich. They're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of the America, the 90, 95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling and I'll continue to take that message across the nation."

Romney is 100% correct. The very poorest of the poor don't need new programs. The current safety net is there to help them survive. What many of the poor don't have is the ability to move up to become middle class. This isn't because of the safety nets in place are lacking. It is because of lack of jobs and education.

Improvements in these areas that affect the middle class will also help the very poor; the very poor are just not the primary target of what Romney is focusing on.

In Australia we may (or not) be concerned about the poor, but we mainly do not care about US politics.

Next time you ask a question make sure you ask the target audience, politicians who make your silly mistake are soon forgotten
