Cat foaming at mouth, its not rabies.?
My cat is an indoor cat, no other animals. She was foaming/frothing at the mouth, I made sure that there wasn't anything in her airway and she was breathing. It only lasted a couple of moments and then she was fine. She's had a watery eye, but I can't see that there is anything in it or that anything else is wrong with her. She's been eating and drinking plenty of water. What would cause her to foam at the mouth. I know she doesn't have rabies since shes not in contact with any other animals.
I found some toothpaste in my cats fur, she had been grooming herself right before the incident happened.

Alexis was right...when a cat foams from the mouth, it's usually from a siezure or some type of poison. I put Frontline on my cat...she licked some of it off...and started foaming like crazy. I called the vet immediately...he had me rinse her mouth out and take her in ASAP. This isn't something to mess around with...it could mean that someone has poisoned your cat, and if you don't want it to die, get it in to the VET! Personally, I wouldn't be waiting for answers on a website...I'd be taking my cat to the vet. PS... toothpaste can be toxic to cats!!

This is usually the result of seizure or poison exposure. Cats sometimes react this way to a new flea collar or topical flea medication, maybe a household chemical. Call your vetinary hospital, there should be an on-call vet who can return your call and discuss this with you. If there is no on-call service you should determine whether you want to take your cat to an animal hospital or if you want to wait and call your vet in the morning. At least speak to your vet on the phone about this incident.

If she got into human toothpaste, that would cause her to foam a bit at the mouth. If it were me, I would take my cat to the vet, and have her examined just to be safe. There are a number of household chemicals that could make her very sick if she got into them. It is better to be safe and have the vet give her a quick checkup.

I KNOW FOR A FACT IT WAS THE TOOTHPASTE causing your cat's foaming. When I was a kid my cat used to sniff my breath after every time I brushed my teeth. One day I had the bright idea to see if he wanted to try a little TINY dab of toothpaste from the tip of my finger, the smallest amount you could put. It was a dot, seriously. He immediately began trying to "spit" it out and the repeated action of him gnashing his tongue resulted in a rather frightful amount of frothing at the mouth. You would have thought I fed him a spoonful of toothpaste for the amount of foam that was coming out of his mouth! I imagine it probably burns their mouth (remember how grownup toothpaste burned your mouth when you were little?), and they react by trying to eject it from their mouth. The sandpaper tongue coated with toothpaste combined with increased saluvation from the spicy burn and the tongue being rubbed against the roof of the mouth creates lather, just like when you brush.

Check your house plants. Some are toxic to cats. My cats foam when they catch a toad. Freaked me out the first time.
