WW2 German Medals...?

In all the reading I did I only found confirmation of the medals they received were for things like shooting down planes, destroying tanks, leadership, an achievement ,never for acts of bravery or valor. Can you give some input?

Update:

Meant specifically,categorically

"never for acts of bravery or valor"

The medal itself is recognition for bravery, the 'given' being you have to have done something brave to receive it, eg:

"WWII German Iron Cross Second Class - The Iron Cross is perhaps the most recognizable award of World War two. It was issued to soldiers in recognition for bravery"

    -or-

"The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was the highest award of Germany to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership during World War II. It was second only to the Grand Cross of the Iron Cross (Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) in the military order of the Third Reich."

The medal says they were brave, the individual written citation says why and undoubtedly would mention bravery etal :)

Do you not think it takes major cajones to destroy a tank, standing up in the middle of a fire fight, and urging your men to advance.
