Frequently Sprained Ankle?

All right...I sprained my ankle badly in the September of 2010 during a week of Motobu Udundi taisabaki (on the ball of your big toe, knees straight ALWAYS), again during my Karate Pre-Shodan test last March while performing a Jumping Spinning Side Kick, that time it was VERY badly strained. Same ankle.

Now tonight I did it again while demonstrating a Japanese Jujutsu technique. Not as bad as the first time I sprained it.

So that's one sprained ankle every year for the past three years.

What are some exercises I can incorporate into my training to strengthen my ankle after I'm all healed up?

I'd pay the co-pay to go see my doctors, however the last times I went they x-rayed my ankle, gave me paperwork and sent me on my way, didn't explain anything I can do to rehab my ankle or help prevent injuring it again.

Many thanks.

I tore ligaments in my ankle a while back and I still have troubles with it. As always, rice. Try investing in a brace wear it around after you get hurt. I've been to quite a few physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons and they've given great tips. Start slow when trying to do exercises. Don't run, walk a slow/ comfortable pace. If its really bad to where you have a bad limp, don't work too much, but if you want it to get better you have to work on strengthening it. If it's not in agony, try slow up and down curls with it. Before any type of exercise, stretch it out to prevent further injury. And always, if it gets bad, see a doctor. Hope this helped!

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I sprained my ankle just today (third time this school year) ( and just sprained my ankle badly last week too) so im someone with terrible ankle strength. I suggest letting the ankle heal properly while doing simple exercises like balancing or just pointing your toe up down up down.

A few months ago, something similar happened to me during Judo, it was surprisingly the same technique, tai sabaki. After it got better, I felt that stretching my ankle on a regular basis helped a lot. Once it was well-stretched I started applying a little more force to strengthen it.
