Could she have been stung by an insect or trodden in strong household chemicals or other irritant? Check the paw to see if you can spot any wounds or claw damage as there may be an abscess forming. Does the pad feel hot to the touch in comparison to her other pads? If so that can be a sign of infection.

Keep any eye on her and if she shows any signs of discomfort or the swelling doesn't subside within the next 48 hours, then she needs to be examined by a vet and possibly prescribed antibiotics.

If the pad gets much worse very quickly or other pads begin to show similar symptoms, then ask your vet to check for a condition known as Plasma Cell Pododermatitis (pillow foot). It's a fairly rare condition but it causes their foot pads to swell and sometimes ulceration occurs. This article has further information and photos.
