The nurse was right, but also keep in mind that its very important for you to eat five small meals a day. And you may want to see if your health provided has classes on diabetes and take them. What your doctors don't explain is that you can control it with your diet. Eating to much fruit can cause a problem. Some vegetables are high in sugar, like potatoes, carrots, peas. fruits are grapes, watermelon, oranges. You can eat them but only in small amounts. Best fruit for you are pears , apples , blueberries, Strawberries. Bananas are good for you but eat small one. And be sure to check your sugar levels on time each day..My dad was a diabetic and because I took the class and followed what I learned he was taking off his medication. His doctor told him he no longer had it. He was 96.

The answer is different for every diabetic. No doctor, dietitian, diabetic nurse or person on the internet - including yours truly - can give you an answer that applies to every diabetic the same. If you want to know how a banana affects your blood sugar, the only way to know is to test your blood sugar after eating one. You should have blood sugar targets for throughout the day. Did you stay under your upper limit? Did you meet your goal? Hey, then maybe bananas are something you can enjoy.

I can only make generalities without knowing what type of diabetes you have, what your A1c is, how you control your blood sugar, etc., and that's 1) bananas are fairly high in carbohydrates and so will have an impact on blood sugar and 2) many diabetics are most carbohydrate sensitive in the morning, which means that carbohydrates for breakfast raise blood sugar higher than they would at other points in the day.

Many vegetables are diabetes friendly, but fruit needs to be eaten with a little more caution. You shouldn't eat anything blind just because a nurse told you it'd be okay. You always should test your blood sugar to determine if a food or drink is safe for YOU.

Diabetes, also called diabetes mellitus, has become a very common heath problem. How to reverse diabetes naturally https://tr.im/Zwl1J

There are two main types of diabetes- type 1 diabetes in which the body does not produce insulin and type 2 diabetes in which the body does not produce enough insulin or the insulin that is produced does not work properly.

Some of the common symptoms of diabetes include fatigue, weight loss (even though you are eating more), excessive thirst, increased urination, cut and bruises that are slow to heal and blurred vision.

While there is no cure for diabetes, with your blood sugar level under control you can live a totally normal life. There are various natural remedies for diabetes that will help you control your blood sugar level.

It is up to you. For me, eating a banana at any time of day sends my blood glucose soaring and to me it just isn't worth it (I'm not a huge banana fan and can get the vitamins in a banana from other fruits/veggies which don't mess so much with my bg). If you are going to eat a banana, morning would probably be a good idea since you'd have all day to work off the excess glucose. Eat a banana, wait a while, then test your blood to see what your number is and whether you're happy with it.

    sort of!

basically a diabetic can have one small banana that is not too ripe (not going brown as this is when the sugar content will be even higher).

my partner is diabetic and was told this and also that if he has any grapes that he is only to 5 a day as they are high in natural sugar.

,most other fruit and veg are ok though, so long as they are not artificially sweetened such as in a tin or in syrup etc.

the nurse who told you that it is ok to eat a banana should really have explained things in more detail to you.

It's like when you have a budget of $20, you can spend $15 on movie tickets or $12 on a CD but you can't have both; I know, difficult concept. You can have whatever you want as long as it meets your dietary restrictions in carbohydrates. It's the carbohydrates that affects your glucose levels the most and there are carbohydrates in fruits and vegetables. They used to have you track fats and proteins too and you used to memorize exchanges, and could trade some fats or proteins in for more carbohydrates but they found it was too much for people to remember so they just tell you to focus only on the carbohydrates.

Fruits and vegetables have a lot of good nutrition in them so at least you're getting more for the carbohydrates you're taking in then if you just had empty carbohydrates like a can of soda.

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.
