Why do parents let their 2 to 4 year olds watch childrens tv?

These kids tv shows are made by people to keep kids dumbed down and stunt their intellectual and emotional development. The language and the way they address and speak to children teaches kids to talk like babies and does nothing but damage. I teach and read to my son as an adult and he listens to classical music with of and his development is a lot quicker then his friends who watch kids tv. I am also thinking of home schooling him as i don't want him to be dumbed down by state education.

Depends what TV you mean, and how much. In the UK we have CBeebies and there are several educational programmes on there that my younger children love. As my 22mth old daughter can speak in sentences and in the first person, recites her alphabet, can count to 10 and can complete a 24 piece jigsaw puzzle without assistance, I don't feel she's being in any way 'dumbed down' if she wishes to relax by watching 20mins of (adult supervised) quality TV instead of one of her books or jigsaw puzzles. We often watch something called 'Mr Bloom's Nursery' - about all the everyday plants and bugs in the garden - then go out and see if we can find some ourselves. Great fun and very healthy.

On the other hand, if parents choose to use the TV as an all-day 'electronic babysitter' rather than making the effort to interact with their child, there's no question in my mind that this leads to all manner of problems, from lack of concentration to delays in language and social development.

I would think very carefully about home-schooling though - education is incredibly important, but education doesn't just refer to academia. A child needs to be confident in social situations, to build friendships, to learn how to be creative, to deal with being part of a team etc - all these things are essential to creating a well-rounded adult and are much harder to achieve (though not impossible) via the home-schooling route.

i am a mother til 2 kids and my eldest is now coming 7, i let her watch certain kids programmes as a toddler and it done her no harm, at the minute she is the top of her year at her school and is a very bright little girl, some kids shows teach children a whole selection of different skills. i don't agree in children spending hours sitting up watching TV but i also don't think that its bad either til let kids be kids and enjoy being young!

You can try to teach your children any way you want. But at times they won't listen or want to learn that way. They'll feel not intrested in that method. So you should let kids be kids. Put on an educational show for them to watch. They'll be influenced and attracted by the show as they show kids at school learning by counting, saying shapes, singing the abc's, and singing toddler songs. The kid's learn more that way it's fun for them and beneficial for them. You can't just teach them how to count, shapes, abc's, toddler or pre-school songs. They like learning it with other kids as they see it, and experiencing singing along having fun. Not just a by a parent always trying to throw all that for them to learn it all at once. That'll overwelm them and you would be pressuring them. That is not the way that always works to teaching your children.

It keeps them quiet for a bit, so you have chance to do jobs around the house without children clinging on to you or screaming.

Also I don't let my son watch Mr.Tumble/Justin because he talks down to children, I also won't let him watch Rastamouse or Teletubbies because they don't speak properly, but there are some childrens programmes that teach children and don't talk down to them, my son has learned the numbers 1-6 from watching telly.

He also will settle with his bottle on the settee in front of Fireman Sam to have his nap.

I also read (well try to, but he likes holding the books) to him and give him shapes and blocks and things to play with.

Home schooling might be good for education but it's not very good for social skills, I learned a lot at school and I also had lots of books at home that I learned from too.

Source(s): My son is only 15 months, but I'll still let him watch childrens programmes when he's 2-4.

If you wish to show your little child to see frequent phrases which will probably come across and which can be conditions to basic phonetic principles then what you need is here now https://tr.im/PXKX5 , Children Learning Reading program.

Children Learning Reading is a phonetic centered studying system. This means that it first teaches your child the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make. After that it applies this understanding to help your youngster determine words based on the sounds the words make. The program is made to teach the basic "code" for reading initially. Only after it has been acquired are conditions, troubles, and variations introduced.

Moderation- in both quality and content- is the key. My toddlers watch television, but I am selective of both what they watch and how much of it they watch. It can actually be very beneficial to them if you do this.

Children learn differently. Exposing them to classical music is not bad, in fact it is very good. However, there are great benefits to their being exposed to children's music as well.

I homeschool my children- it allows me to meet their individual needs, building upon their unique strengths and working to improve their weaknesses. I would not have it any other way.

I let by kids watch some tv because it helps them learn. I tried flashcards repeating all kinds of things trying to get my son to learn shapes and Colors. Nothing I did worked so I turned Mickey mouse clubhouse on and he learned quickly from that. I don't let them watch spongebob that's the stupidest show and not something they should be watching

I let my kids watch TV but not like sitting there for hours. My 7 year old does, sometimes my 5 year old but it's not like I let them watch Law and Order or something. I wouldn't show a 5 year old a baby show. I would do it by their age level

AMEN!! I completely agree! The television shows these days, are completely unintelligent, and dumb down children. I only let my kids watch the occasional veggie tales, but only occasionally. I've seen people put children as young as 5mos. in front of a t.v. And it blows my mind! And I completely agree with homeschooling, I was homeschooled as a child, and I am considering it for my children too.

    Good luck:)
