Do you believe that the early Christians did not use the Name of Jehovah?

Christian tombs from prior to 70 CE (AD) have been discovered. Here is a brief excerpt from one article:

"Tabor noted that the epitaph's complete and final translation is uncertain. The first three lines are clear, but the last line, consisting of three Greek letters, is less sure, yielding several possible translations: "O Divine Jehovah, raise up, raise up," or "The Divine Jehovah raises up to the Holy Place," or "The Divine Jehovah raises up from [the dead]."

"This inscription has something to do with resurrection of the dead, either of the deceased in the ossuary, or perhaps, given the Jonah image nearby, an expression of faith in Jesus' resurrection," Tabor said."

You will have to read the entire article for all the details, but I thought that was interesting.

Well, critics are quick to point out that the form “Jehovah” was not spoken by the early Christians, and there is no “J” in Hebrew. However, all they are doing is side stepping the issue as to whether or not the first Century Christians used the Divine Name, regardless of they pronounced it.

It is obvious they will refuse to admit regardless of the evidence presented.

The news article referenced in the question seems to strongly indicate that they did in fact use Jehovah’s Name.

Side note: It is not only Jehovah’s Witnesses who that form of his Name; many others do as well as can be seen from the news article itself, and even such sources as the KJV in Exodus 6:3; Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 12:2 & 26:4. So people who have a problem with the Divine Name have a problem, not with us but with Jehovah himself. And those who have a problem with form of the Name, “Jehovah,” have a problem, not with just his Witnesses but with many others who also use that Name.

AND if they do not like “Jehovah” because of the “J” they are hypocrites if they use the name “Jesus” for his Son!

I enjoyed to comment that these writings predate the gospels. Written by Christians using the Divine Name.

Even the New King James Bible uses LORD in all caps in the Christian Greek Scriptures. Why because there is ample proof that the bible Jesus and his apostles used contained God's name.

side point: Matthew 28:19 doesn't teach or prove the trinity, it does prove the opposite. When you list "name of" you denote separate individuals / items.

Tom Dick and Harry listed this way prove they are different individuals.

God Almighty's name has been used from Adam down to now by his servants, Adam didn't go "Hey you" or "Hey there"!

Take Jesus and two different tongues Spanish and English, we say Jesus they say Hay zus both mean Jesus.

These unbelievers have had their minds blinded by Satan himself(2 Corinthians 4:4) because Satan(the evil one) is the God of this world(system of things)!

If you went with these blind minds reasoning [j]ust look at how many places in the Bible would be changed, now is that spiritual [j]ustice? [J]esus, [J]emimah, [J]acob, [J]oseph, Eli[j]ah, Elis[j]ah, [J]eroboam, [J]ohnathan etc etc..

    Some people [j]ust don't think!

Interesting. I tend to wait until its reported in the Watchtower if only because I know their steller research teach will check everything thoroughly. Still both articles on that page are interesting not just for the appearance of the tetragrammaton but for proof of early Christianity in the region and the implications of this.

Of course they did. They were taught by Jesus who used Jehovah's name because he was raised as a Jew. Jesus name means "salvation of Jehovah". Jehovah means "he causes to become" a fitting name for the Creator. Ps 83:18 shows he is Jehovah and there is no other like Him.

no i dont believe the early christians used the name jehova for there was no letter j in alphabet during that time. the letter j is only 400 yrs old. therfor jehova, jericho, jerusalem, n yea jesus r not the correct names.

  • Why would they not use Jehovah's name ? Is that not a a big part of the preaching of Jesus to let people know who God is .

I would say it's a guaranteed fact they did *not* use the name "Jehovah" in any way.

    Why?

Because that's an English derivation of a Hebrew word, and not a one of them spoke English.

Did you also notice the article did NOT state those where "christian" tombs, but that the "scholars involved" *believed* they might be, but that was not confirmed? And that there was no mention of jesus?

It's sad when people are so desperate to justify their irrational belief that they're dishonest.

    Peace.

The letter "J" did not even exist back then so no, they did not use the name Jehovah.

The name of Jehovah is good, but the religion of His witnesses is not good. Some people call them (false witnesses). They do not believe in the Trinity. they deceive others saying (Find the word t r i n i t y) in the Bible but they did not read "Baptize them in the name of THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" Mat. 28:19
